Hi. A chain of stores in Denmark recently got a restock of the NES classic mini, so I picked one up. I have installed Retroarch on it, which means that I can display the games in 960x672 which gives a pretty nice aspect ratio with zero shimmering unlike the built in 4:3 mode the console has. I also like how this still works with the original interface That's all well and good, but I have not been able to get scanlines working at all in Retroarch. I'm using the built in scanline shader, but it looks broken in the right side of the screen for some reason. I have tried both FCEumm and Nestopia, but it doesn't make a difference. The image size is set properly so it will align perfectly with a scanline filter. I don't know if the shader option is just broken i Retroarch. I've never had much luck with this emulator before as the menus are a total disaster to navigate, so I'm hoping someone here can help me out. I believe it should be possible to use a scanline overlay (like the XRGB) too, but I haven't been able to find this in the menus, so it leads me to think that this is something that needs to be injected into the emulator somehow. Any advice for doing this would be great This is the effect that I'm after, although not as dark: http://abload.de/img/scanlinesihumo.jpg The uploaded picture shows how the built in shader looks in Retroarch, notice the vertical lines on the right side of the screen. Please ignore the colors being all over the place, that's just my phone not liking my plasma tv that much
You're absolutely right, it doesn't look right (I believe this even occurs on RetroArch for Windows when your resolution is lower than 1080p). Anyway, http://www.pixelpiklz.com/index.php/projects/nesmini-classic-add-more-games-mod/#crtscanlines Use that link, read through, and scroll down. The solution is there. It took me very little time to set up. Upon setting it up, one can't tell which games use RetroArch and what which use KachiKachi (stock emulator). I did however spend a ton of time setting up my mini NES with a compatibility list and you'd never even know that I'm using RetroArch unless you use a controller with shoulder buttons! Enjoy!
Thank you very much. That looks promising. I'm out until Sunday, but will give this a go when I get home
I forgot to mention that I changed the scale (I believe to "integer") in the shader options for the shader to actually look the same as the stock scanlines shader. Once you've got everything set up and tested, I find it nice to change the "retroarch menu button combo" to something that requires a controller with shoulder buttons (Ideally, you have one of these laying around) so that the menu is hidden and one literally cannot tell that Retroarch is being used. I also changed the "Reset button combination" to A+B+Start+Select as is used on most Game Boy games so that I can get into the sound test for Gimmick! (although if you're using a MyArcade controller, there's no way to change the start+select combo on the controller itself).
I removed the menu shortcut all together I have it set up as I want but if I need to change anything I can use the retroarch loader from the rom selection.
I need help with this again Updated Hakchi and Retroarch today and the link posted by Duttroid, which had a properly working scanline filter is no longer up. I've used this filter with great success on the PS1 Classic and assumed that it would work on the NES Classic as well being that both machines are 720p. But with Retroarch being such an awful mess to customize I should have known better. No amount of integer scaling and fiddling with overscan cropping can make the scanlines appear uniform on the NES Classic. Notice how it looks much worse at the bottom of the screen. Any help would be greatly appreciated to get this thing working again
