Can you have that and another video card in your PC at the same time? Is there some way to easily switch from one to the other?
I think you mean they will only work on CRTs. LCDs they don't work on. Unfortunately, no. I under standsome ATI cards other than the Ultimarc can simply output 15khz w/ a simple BIOS hack (never tried, but a user in my forum has instructions on how to do it) but for the most part it's a dedicated machine. I've never figured out how to have one Video card work and not the other in Windows.
Ya I did mean only work on CRTs, not on LCDs. If you must play lightgun games on something like an LCD you need a special lightgun intended for such.
I understand 100mhz Wegas (etc) also won't work. Apparently their lag is really, really bad anyway, so games should not be played on them to begin with.
We have them in stock, so not everywhere! ;-) Yes official. It is the official component cable we're having difficulties getting in stock. NO 100Hz (not mHz, that'd be crazy) TV can do lightgun games unless it supports 50Hz Babu, I thought you said Dutch Hunt there for a while!!
I ve been able to pull-off 1080i resolutions on my CRT 17'inch crappy monitors, with my 360. Give it a shot;D
It totally sucks! I replaced my dead 20" CRt with a 23" HDTV and bleh! My 360 looks really really nice but I hooked up my Gamecube with component and it just looked awful even in 480p, plus the widescreen stretching sucks. My NES actually doesn't look too bad, even with stretching on. N64 looks icky with Svideo too. =( I should just get a CRT for them but there's no way I have room, so I guess I'll have to put up with it.
I have a Sanyo PLV-Z4 video projector. I was impressed about the good scaling. It works very well, especially for 2D games. 3D games for PlayStation or Saturn do not look as good as on a CRT, but I can switch to the original resolution. With this setting, it looks even better than on a CRT and the image is still bigger than on my old 48cm CRT. Anyway the great advantage of LCDs is the flicker free and huge image. Have a look at Turrican for the Commodore 64: The video projector is set to maximum zoom and scaling activated. the monitor on the left is 17inch.
Well I gave up, I put my CRT back in the closet for now. I couldn't put up with 2 TVs. For now it'll be Xbox 360 and Xbox with emulators. Maybe some PS2 or Wii. But all the old systems for now will just have to live via emulation which isn't too bad. Still it's annoying that I don't have the space or money to play the classics they way I'd like to, but it seems I don't have much of a choice. I'd have to recommend to anyone with a HDTV or LCD to get a modded Xbox for retrogaming. It seems to be the best way to do it, unless you have enough room to have a classic CRT setup. But then you need 2 setups, one for HD and one for the retro stuff. Barc0de, I run the Xbox 360 by VGA at 1280x1024 I think. Looks excellent. When I ran it via Component at 720p, it didn't look as sharp (had signal noise). Don't know why, don't care why, it's really shiney and works. I can't believe it but Microsoft basically takes care of nearly all my gaming now. It's either on my Windows PC, my modded Xbox, or my Xbox 360. Scary!
I run my 360 at 1280x1024 too, except when i have to play Project Gotham 3. Which is still a pain in the ass The 360 is quite fun i must admit, and on the PC i ve been revisiting some older games that I never had the time to play (not that i do much now, but i ve stopped going out to save some money ;p ) My gamecube is waiting to be tested for POT efficiency, since a month ago, but i ve still left the multimeter and screwdriver near it without having touched it. I need to do that!
I'd like to see a large (see 30"+) accept regular RGB and not component. I'd be quite happy but so far I've found nothing.
I am sorry, but that looks like a mess. Yeah, this is what I have, and it's not the best for space, I will admit, but if you want to play your games the way they were intended to be played, you really have no choice. Maybe in the UK there's a nice HD CRT w/ Scart that handles 15khz signals great, but in Japan and the US, this product will never exist. I believe Sony make 32" (maybe even 36") WEGA w/ AV Multi. Japanese model though, so it will be very, very pricey to have shipped to you. If you play games in TATE, annything over 29" is probably not such a smart idea. Just about any CRT in Europe should have SCART.
Doesn't that just suck though? Over here in North America no TVs seem to accept RGB. You'd think that wouldn't be such a big deal but nooo... That bugged the hell out of me when building a Supergun. Had to spend like 70 to 80 bucks for a damn encoder cause the TV makers suck ass.
It does. You can go for a Sony PVM though... as I now see neomatrix as pointed out. You should be able to get the 2530 for $75 or less. Shipping might get pricey. Just make yourself an RGB cable and laugh at all your friends!
My TV is the same way, over component it looks like crap and loses all the sharpness and gets blurry, but with VGA at 1336x768 it looks way better. Maybe there just cheap inputs? My TV was on the cheap side, lol. Maybe I should just pick up a cheapo 20" CRT and stick it somewhere in my room for the old systems, idk. That Xbox emulation thing seems like a great idea since it outputs at 480p, but I guess no matter what I'll get bars on the side since it's widescreen.
During emulation on the Xbox, simply set your Xbox to run in widescreen, and then adjust the screen fitting on the emulator. It will take up the full screen, and doesn't really look stretched or anything. It really looks great. I'll think about getting a RGB capable monitor like that Sony. I'd need a 19" viewable atleast, but that would be ideal to have RGB. I could actually build a half cabinet or something and set it ontop and play my JAMMA games. That would certainly be nice because my JROK encoder doesn't seem to output S-Video like it should. I guess I'll see what happens first, RGB monitor or Wii in stock to buy.
