Hello all, I've not long set-up a website (http://www.16bitheaven.com) which is (or rather is soon to be) dedicated to retro gaming and more specifically to the Sega side of that. I have nothing against other consoles/games/companies, this is merely a starting block, and if the site takes off in anyway at all then it will expand to cover all consoles/games/companies and so on. Although the site is pretty bare at the minute (heck it’s less than a week old!) I do need some help. What help would that be? Opinions. I need to know what the community wants, what they think of the way the site is going, what sections they'd like to see etc. I want the site to be extremely dedicated to its community and visa versa, but first that community needs to be built. So if you think you'd like to share an interest, maybe even write an article, or just express an opinion, please help me out and head on over to http://www.16bitheaven.com. There’s many things that the people could contribute to and each comment and new user is a welcome addition. Thanks for reading, and I hope to see you about.
Pretty cool, pretty cool. I like the top banner graphic, but into music always annoyed me personally. But the tune is good, is that from a sega commercial? One way to go is to have pics of something that no one else has, wierd hardware, obscure games, etc. The other guys on the site know a lot more about Sega stuff than me.
Hey, looking good !! I like the little level complete Sonic CD track as you enter the fron page. I also like the different style options that you have. Very nice idea. Let's hope the site grows. You'll probably find that after the other sections are up you'll start to get more visitors. yakumo
Hello again, Thanks for the comments so far. I realise that the content is extremely lacking (hell there isn't any) and I promise I will get cracking this week to get some nice reviews in, complete with all sorts of magazine scans, pictures, secrets, interesting facts, and lots more stuff. Got loads of old Sega mags lying around waiting to be scanned in, and they actually have some really cool info on things such as the Saturn prototype mock-up pictures (which are strange to say the least). So hopefully as I haven't seen this type of information about in the past it might provide me with a little edge over the competition. As for the intro music, so far got 1 vote for and 1 vote against, if more people comment a decision will be taken to remove it or keep it. Thanks again for your time in checking out the site
me too, especially if it's on every page and while browsing, it goes off all the time. I detest music on a website...
I am against the music on sites when used excessively or improperly. As regards the music that used to be on the site it was a 5 second mp3 from Sonic CD that didn't repeat. Personally I didn't find it that much of a nuisance.
Yeah, you'd want to attach it to a movie clip or animation that the user can choose to view ala flash or something. Although if you go with a flash intro you'd want to give the user the option to skip it. The idea being that people who don't like that stuff or have slow connections can still quickly access the site.
Just a little update, to tell you that things are moving along (if at a rather slow pace granted). I'm currently getting the site basics down, with (hopefully) plenty of reviews and obscure game media to come. http://www.16bitheaven.com/unreleased_sega_games.html This is some of the content you can expect from scans etc. I have tons of this stuff, including an even stranger looking Saturn concept, a SNES CD concept, loads of unreleased game info, and even an odd video or 2. I'm also looking for a PHP coder or anyone that think they could help out. My current plan is to form some kind of forum integration with the site so that comments can be added for games/news articles etc for registered forum users, and loads of other stuff. If anyone knows of any current modules, add-ons or code that will allow me to do this with phpBB2 forums, I would be most grateful if you could let me know. If there isn't such a product available currently, would anybody out there be willing to write some PHP code to do so?
