In the latest issue of wired as the title states, starting with the tail, gene manipulation can result in a form of "chickenosaurus." The manipulation they are referring to, however, is due to taking the same genes and changing there uses. Not different genes. I'm quoting this because of my geekdom. "One of these pathways includes a gene known as Sonic Hedgehog, which controls the proliferation of cells" Pg 156 near the bottom left corner of the left page. It's a great article! But they do debunk the Jurassic Park mosquito-in-amber-theory. DNA breaks down too fast in both amber and bones.
I enjoyed that article and like the idea of a Chickensaurus. But... I kind of doubt it will ever happen. Scientists really shouldn't tinker with certain things. Fluorescent cats and frogs with transparent skin being some of them.
I would love to see him (I read/saw about it on reddit around two or three weeks) do the stuff on The Hoatzin, that would be awesome to see the archaeopteryx again.
