there's alot of speculations on the revolution regarding 3d images. And, while they're just speculations, they aren't based on nothing either. First, Nintendo said that not everything was shown, that revolution we know so far isn't complete and they are keepings things for the last moment Miyamoto seems to talk alot about how he'd like to see a video game machine using something else than a tv to show the game, that he'd like to make virtual games closer to reality and all. Third, Lucas Art talked about a video game machine they knew capable of doing 3d projections, similar to what they'd like to bring in theaters. http://cube.ign.com/articles/668/668117p1.htm Now, is really an official patent, or something that was made by someone on a random site just to start another rumor? Edit: woops, didn't noticed the link name. EDIT2: a link to lucas art, perhaps?
Great find there VirtualAlan, too bad the patent documents don't give us much in the way of details about the system itself (and that half of it doesn't make much sense to me either). On another note though, has anyone really heard much of anything regarding the Revolution hardware? All I've heard really are statements such as "Revolution is going to be 2-3 times more powerful than the Gamecube" Anybody know anything more about it? My impression is that Nintendo is really trying to keep things under wrap so that people don't dismiss it immediately because of lack of power versus the PS3 and Xbox 360.
Nintendo claimed you wouldnt see a difference between games on the revolution, and games on another platform. This is what nintendo said anyway. there's alot of rumors going on this level too. Some say the Revolution will only have one core, to make games easier to develop than on other systems, and have alot of L2 cache, to make IA, physics and all better, wich, in a way, join what nintendo wants: gameplay over graphics.
I'm sure one developers gain experience using all the cores of the 360 and PS3 that you will definitely be able to tell a difference, but honestly, to me, gameplay is more important which is why the Revolution holds a lot of hope for me. I still play my SMS and Genesis 10 times more often than I play my Xbox. Don't get me wrong, I love pretty graphics, but they can't make up for anything if you've got crap game play which so many games today suffer from.
Definitely. I've heard some pretty crazy ones regarding the Revolution such as "The Revolution is going to use the same processor and video card as the Xbox 360" and such. With new systems like these, especially one as shrouded in mystery as the Revolution, any word that comes out about it has to be regarded as strictly rumors.
There is no way it willl use the same chips as the xbox 360. Microsoft own the rights to the chips designs and stuff. These are not off the shelf components like the xbox.
Microsoft owns the intellectual property to all the custom chips in the 360 this time around, so there is no way in hell that they would be letting a competitor use their products. I was just making an example of all the crazy rumors that people have been spitting out on the internet. I've heard some pretty crazy ones, I could probably fill a post page with them.
I think what they really mean is that ithe Revolution will use a similar PowerPC IBM procesor and a similar Ati GPU, since IBM and Ati are once again working with Nintendo on the development of the Revolution. I'm pretty sure they won't do the exact same thing that they did for Microsoft and their 360, but I don't think they will do something too different, as they are aiming for a relatively powerful next-gen gaming machine.
God I really amaze myself sometimes!!!!! Just goes to show if you want to know come to ASSEMbler http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=13264
