    Hi

I made an RGB cable today and the image is awful

its really bright compared to the composite

the only difference I did was added a 150R resister instead of a 180R on the 5v line

I didn't think that 30 Ohms would make such a difference or is it something else

one thing I did noticed on the console itself was the RGB mod done by console passion was something I didn't understand or ever seen before

here is the schematics to the cable I made

30ohms could make the difference but the resistor there has nothing to do with picture brightness as far as I know. What console is this for? If I were you I'd try inserting 75ohm resistors on the RGB lines to see if it helps and increasing/lowering the values from there.

I assume its for a neogeo, as this is the neogeo forum and thats a neogeo RGB cable diagram.

Resistor is just switching voltage for RGB mode. It could be the resistor - RGB mode it between 1 and 3v, with a lower value resistor, it could be greater than 3v and the tv freak out.

    yes Neo Geo AES

I will try the 75 ohms and go from there

    I ordered some 180 ohms as I didn't have any and that's why I used 150 ohms

    thanks for the help

    will update with results

dont add 75ohm resistors, they are not required.

would that be the case even though I don't see 75ohm resisters added to the RGB lines of the actual console RGB mod

that what I meant by I don't recognise the mod performed on it

Neo geo's output RGB by default.

The only rgb mods done are "bypass" mods, which try to improve the picture by avoiding areas of the motherboard that cause interference IIRC.

But posting a picture of what you actually have would help, rather than you dont know what the mod is.

from what I remember only 3-6 needed the bypass to stop interference

I have the 3-4 and here are pics

I thought you might ask so I grabbed them while I awaited a reply

UNDERSIDE..... NOTE THAT TRACES HAVE BEEN CUT AND THAT 2 RESISTORS AER BRIDGED (NEVER SEEN THIS METHOD BEFORE)

TOP SIDE... NO RESISTERS OR CAPS BEEN REMOVED

Ok, I retract my previous statement. You need 75ohm resistors, but I have no idea why they moved that to the cable, rather than putting them in the console.

I am not sure about the bridged points either.

Personally, I would rework that mod so you dont need to mod the cable. You have to solder in resistors somewhere, might as well be the console so you dont need to keep modding cables if you lose them or need to replace them.

cheers bad add I will add the resisters in the console as its the best place

hopefully someone can clarify what those bridged resisters are for other wise I will just clean the solder of them

and also are the cut tracks supposed to be there

again the track cutting is something I have never seen

    Don't you love console passion

ripped off a poor old lady with this AES

charged her the full whack £80 to do all 3 mods and all she got was a Unibios, no LED mod, and a weird looking RGB mod

I purchased this machine assuming all mods where done so I wouldn't have to mess about

    oh well...............

Its done like that for speed. So rather than remove the components, cut the traces and leave them in.

Faster, but means the machine is damaged and cant be reversed. Poor workmanship really, especially at the prices he charges.

    such a shame that is

    really hate people like that

would It be a good idea to assume then that the bridged resisters can be freed up and 75 ohm resisters added where needed and leave the cut traces as is

although I can repair those traces if needed

I have a roll of track repair tape

You have kinda answered it yourself, I dont understand what you need answering?

You have a botched mod, you linked to what it should be like - so do that?

I'd assume lazyness or they were maybe using a megadrive cable with the resistors already in place. Orrr display device was more sensitive/ worked better without.

Edit: silverfox0786 on the mod done to your console, the sync line is wrong, the R G and B lines also seem to be going across two pins instead of just one, which also i do not think is good.

remove them and re do it like the one you linked to. simples.

can be made to and by the look of that mod, it wouldnt surprise me if they were sticking forks in the socket and using that for AV out.
