ok, a while back i got a Retro Duo (3.0 mascot edition) the blue and red one.

i got this over a NES and SNES for many reasons which i wont go into here as its irelevant now.

i like it, its nice and good quality over many other clones and supports the original snes controllers (can hack nes ones into it too)

will play pal, us, and jap games so all good there.

I want to do an RGB mod on it. i know this is possible as has been done before. and would be great to have the NES and SNES parts running off the same connection (NES doesnt support S-video out).

i'm wondering what the best connector to use is, in the past i've used RCA jacks for composite and DB9's but i don't like the DB9's.

thought about a scart socket directly on the console but thats a big ugly socket and means cutting a big hole (which im not too confident about)

any other suggestions as to which socket / connections i could use on the console end?

If I were to install RGB I'd use the RCA sockets. Red, Green, and Blue for the colors. I'd make the SYNC black since that color isn't used much. Component cable for the 3 colors and the bit harder to find black cable for SYNC. Red and white for the audio. Done.

EDIT: Forgot about that this most likely goes into a SCART connector for TV end so there's the voltage point for getting TV to RGB mode...
Extra RCA port for the voltage needed. Perhaps the orange one since no one will think the console has Dolby Digital out.

Also not sure about a weak SYNC signal being an issue. Could pull it from the composite video with a SYNC Stripper built right into the TV side of the SCART plug.

8 pin DIN, just like the neo geo.

Common connector and you can buy a pre made cable.

8 pin din is probably a decent option,

@ sonicdude10 RCA jacks would be easy enough but a bit too messy i think way too many connections even if done neatly and yeah you're 100% correct, it will be used with scart.

as for the voltage to switch to RGB its not a major issue if i can't get that from the console side as with my setup of scart switch boxes etc i'd be able just turn on another console connected to the same switch box which would set the TV to RGB mode even if switched to another input, which for some reason is what i have to do anyway for the PS2 even though the cable seems to be wired correctly. eg if i want to play the PS2 i need to turn on another device like the saturn which is on the same switch box and that sets the tv to RGB mode

not ideal but not too much effort

Could open the TV up and set a switch for the voltages needed to change the input source on the SCART input. As in have a 3 position switch to select RGB or composite ect. right on the set. Shouldn't be too hard to find points that have the proper voltages inside. That will solve the voltage mode set issue permanently.

Or just use din8. Voltages for switching and rgb mode should all be within the console and wired to the din8 connector. Modding the tv isnt the way to do it.

Hmm that'd be fun to look into. Real SNES has a mod for digital audio. Never heard anything about clones...

Does the Retro Duo have S-Video? If it does maybe that's where to start.

Megadrive 2 jack. I doubt you'll find anything smaller that's in theory suitable.

They are also a pain to buy in small amounts (though if the op wants some - I have a bunch from when I had to buy 100)

Annoying thing is - they still have not updated the picture in the listing.

The ones they sell do not have the shield - which I needed when I bought them. I ended up swapping out one from a MD2 to get what I wanted.

thanks for the links there to the mini dins but i dont fancy using them to be honnest, for a few reasons.

but i may use the larger 8 pin din.

i have some things lying around here including scart sockets and a DB9 which is pre wired i was going to use for something else. i'm too damn indecisive
