I got my Xbox 360 Jasper back last Friday and played around with it over the weekend. It has a Coolrunner C chip installed, I wanted to have it Jtag'd but it was not possible because of the kernel patch. I had heard many horror stories about RGH, with long boot times and I am happy to say my console takes around 25 seconds to boot from the time I press the power button until it loads everything ready to go in Freestyle 3, in comparison my Tsop'd original Xbox takes around 15 seconds to load to XBMC so I am very happy with it. Its about the same time as when I had my original Xbox soft modded. As a test I copied Virtua Tennis (I like that game) from the original disc to the hard drive which is 1TB without any problems and it loads fine even without the disc in the drive, I used DVDCopy. The only thing I need to work out is how to get the cover art, my internet went down over the weekend so I suspect it gets it from there and will be back on later today. I have the FTP up and running at it works fine with FileZilla on my laptop. The fan was set to Auto but I am not used to seeing temps in the 60c range after my original Xbox's so I set it to 65% and the GPU stays around 50c and the CPU around 45c. Using the HDMI cable into my Sharp Aquos LCD Tv it looks awesome with everything in 1080P, when I had my PS3 most things were in 720P. So all in all I couldn't be happier and thanks to everyone on here for there advice.
Funny you should say that because I just purchased another Jasper and am having it R-Jtag'd and a 1TB Hdd so I will let you know if it's better or worse.
It's being R-Jtag'd because when I bought it I didn't realize it had the latest dash on it and you can't use RGH1 on a dash higher than 14699, it can only be RGH2 and as the guy doing the mods, who is absolutely fantastic said, RGH2 boot times suck. He has finished the R-Jtag and said it glitches on the first cycle most times and then at worst 3 cycles. I agree that if it has been 14699 or lower it would be RGH1 as when done "properly" it glitches practically first cycle nearly every time. But it seems the R-Jtag is pretty close to it. No, that honor would go to the Xenon motherboard.
meh got a xenon right here, never got any problems. the reason why rjtag is stupid, it glitching to boot to the 4532k then rebooting into the dashboard again with the patches in place. I did this years ago when there were no way to boot to a modded dash, a long time ago.
Maybe they have got better as my tech says that it's just as quick as a good RGH1, and way quicker than RGH2. Anyway it will be here on Monday so I can give a review. Jtag is better but it would be nearly impossible to find a console with a dash old enough to use it.
I got the R-Jtag Jasper back, it's identical to the RGH1, the RGH1 boots on the first cycle nearly every time, the R-Jtag boots nearly every time on the third cycle. So it is slower but like I say if you are going to play it for over an hour why worry about seconds at the start? Other wise it performs exactly the same as the RGH1. Freestyle 3.0 is awesome as well, I will say it again though I love XBMC on my original Xbox's, but it certainly works well and looks great.
That's not how it works, it likely boots into the 1888 base kernal, patches to the 7371 exploitable kernal, then does the normal JTAG boot process as you have to install the JTAG wiring anyways. The King Kong exploit wouldn't be possible on all phats as many were manufactured and patched with a higher kernal than that while ALL phat consoles were at some point on exploitable 7371. The thing about R-JTAG is that it allows the installer to have much more freedom with tweaking, if you spend the time monitoring the POST and tweaking with the Dips and the wiring (CPU_RST, STBY_CLK) then you can get it down to a perfect boot every time. It also allows you to dual NAND the console later.
Now for the reason I got another Jasper, I got the first one back and in less than a week our house was broken into and they stole our TV, my wife's laptop and the RGH1 Xbox 360. So I bought another Jasper of Ebay and didn't check what dash it had, it had been updated to the latest one so I am lucky that my tech could get it going so well as I was so happy with the first one which booted first time nearly every time.
