So what are the best/most interesting? Anything from games like Loom to Guitaroo Man. I've picked up Um Jammer Lammy, Parappa's on it's way and Vib Ribbon shouldn't be far behind it, so leave out those. Oh, and I'm not a fan of DDR... I don't mind games that require a special controller, but if I have to dance, I'm out.

    Any suggestions?

Vib Ribbon is great. Um, I think Rez can qualify as one, but its really just a shooter where the enemies, and the level, all move to the beat of the music. Then there's Frequency and a few others where music is a key factor in the gameplay mechanics.

Donkey Konga is great fun, and DK Jungle Beat is definately...different.

I have a preorder for Guitar Hero when it comes out over here too...

Don't forget Space Channel 5 for a bit of cheesy gaming fun too, as well as samba de amigo

Hmmm what about the awful Spiceworld ? or the cool Bust A Move ? (Bust A Groove to the European market, since Bust A Move is really puzzle bubble in Europe, but the strange thing is when Puzzle Bubble first came out, it was called PB on SNES). :S
    or maybe I am wrong..

Guitar Hero, I live in the US so it's already out here, but it's a must have if you're looking for rythm game, and unlike DDR, you can keep your dignity when playing with a guitar controller.

How about Beatmania or the Pop N' Music series?

Yeah! Right with Kotodama, get yourself some Konami rhythm action. Beatmania can be a bit scary to start with so maybe starting with the early games might help get your bearings, though I went right in on DX with no issues.

Pop'n is a lot easier in that it has lots of help in getting your bearings, though it can be a bastard on the harder levels, I have pretty much peaked at 27 ish I reckon.

I really like some of the music in these games, from anime songs to pretty cool trance and hard drum and bass. It is actually pretty nice.

Needless to say get a proper controller, otherwise you will not be playing it "properly".

If you can play Japanese dojin games, I know of loads of DDR games that can be had for free - or less than a fiver. Some with some pretty cool ost and systems. Worth a look.

It certainly does, I should've included Rez. Very interesting game, I'd be interested in anything similar. Any time the player directly affects the music/sound is primarily what I'm interested in.

Ordered Space Channel 5 over at Lik Sang for something like £3 the other day.

Bust a Groove sounds alright - anyone got a copy for sale?

I'm looking into Beatmania and spin-offs. Mostly requires big clunky extra controllers though, right?

Alchy - you really need those big chunky Konami controllers to get the most out of these games, I actually got the full size arcade Pop'n controller which is spot on. But the smaller (cheap) controllers are almost as good - but you can't do the hardest songs on them, it is just almost physically impossible.

Also the DX beatmania controllers are very nice indeed, some people mod them a little, but I think right from the box they are excellent. Maybe I am just not that hardcore about BM.
