I hope it is better then RR6. I loved RR6 but it truely was sadly an extended version of the psp game. There was very little new to the whole setup.

I have not even made it past 70 percent complete of the 360 version, this is a bit too soon for me at the moment...

However it sounds like they are really going for a more futuristic feel to the game, I really want more concept cars, neon cities and techno(!) to the game. I really hope they strike a medium between the reality and fantasy. While games like f-zero are all well and good, I just prefer the "feel" of proper physics based on cars - even if it is tweaked to make it a little more entertaining.

The only thing that worries me slightly is that only about 7 people in Japan will have played the 360 game, so this could be thinly veiled attempt to rehash and get some money out of the RR6 project in the Japanese market.

I suppose we will know if this is going to be a genuine step forward when proper screens start turning up.

While RR6 on the 360 was quite good (spent many hours on it), I couldn't help but feel it too much of a rush job. Graphically, it was nice but a few camera issues cropped up in later sections of the game when using some of the faster cars like the Pac-Man Saucer--the camera simply could not keep up on some of the twistier tracks at those insane speeds...something that could have been recitified with more testing.

IMO, they should stay away from the futuristic crap. The latter 30% of RR6 was ruined IMO by the inclusion of hovercraft-type cars. Damn shame too, since the cars control rather well, but the hovercrafts/spacecraft are just too floaty and big for types of tracks you race on. Overtaking becomes needlessly difficult later due to the sheer size of the CPU drones. I didn't much enjoy WipeOut nor do I enjoy floaty vehicle physics.

Yeah, there are certainly many things about RR6 that felt really rushed. I couldn't believe it the first time I did a massive drift, in a fast car, in level 3 boost. I lost a solid 20 frames! Very annoying when trying to control a massive drift, but it also made the game look broken, instead of it merely slowing down.

I also think overtaking, particularly in certain cars (as you said) is the single most "broken" thing about the whole game. In VS mode my friend and I were reduced to blocking each other all the time, which did feel a little cheap and hardly a good match. It always came down saving all the nitro for the widest sections of the track in order to overtake, rather than using it on great drifts.

Well, I have not seen the majority of the secret cars as of yet, (I am polishing doing all the regular tracks before hitting the specials) but I do hope that some of the concept cars are fun to use. Ah well, I just think getting to grips with some of the heavy drift style cars is one of the true challenges the game actually offers. But if that is at the expense of "breaking" the balance of the game, it is hardly worth it.

I think for RR7 given they have chosen a "slightly" futuristic setting, they shouldn't have cars that look like they could exist today. Basically, I want cool design, even if the cars don't handle much differently from RR6! Perhaps give the cars a bit more speed, but I don't want things to get silly. RR has always functioned by being just realistic enough to feel vaguely like a car, but still arcade fun.

Very nice, but I will hold judgement until I see it running on some crappy old 14" portable TV, if it still looks good then, it will get my vote. Artsy press renders and carefully edited footage don't work on me anymore, look at Oblivion on the 360, that was supposed to be "load free" with a stupid draw distance, and is a glitchy mess with worse pop-up than an early PS1 game.

These certainly look good, a small step above the 360... If they are in game shots. I'm really starting to enjoy RR right now, I look forward to seeing this in action.

Hopefully they will let me use my own music, because the last few RR sound tracks have been so bad I need to turn them off. And the engine sound is nothing to write home about.
