Megadrive hardware was cloned by pirates ages ago. Sega did some Megadrive-in-a-pad re-releases not so long ago, I was kind of tempted but they were ridiculously priced when I saw them.

Is this a commercial thing or a fan project? The casing looks amazing if it's the latter.

This is one of those 6 games in a MD pad. That mini MD is part of that set-up, it's where the AV cables come from, I beleive. All someone's done is remove the GoaC from inside the pad, and put it in the MD with a cart slot wired in.

I heard about it in gizmodo, they say it isn't clear if the thing does work.

After all the GOC looses the Z80 chip...

If that is the only issue then I believe it only makes a few games incompatible, since the Mega Drive 3 was released without the Z80 chip also.

I have one of those things hanging around here somewhere but it wants 4 AA batteries so ive not tried it out. I always thought that this was legally licenced or something... it doesnt feel as cheaply made as most pirate consoles.

Hmmm isn´t there a little tiny hole to the power supply on the back of the MDbox ? since there is on my two versions of the radica MD clone(the 6 in 1 clone, and the SF2 version), and those uses a normal power adaptor, I got from a famiclone , that I don´t use.

Correction: All MD/Gen have a Z80! (Of course!) Some of the later ASIC systems don't include the Mark-III compatibility mode.

Yeah, without the Z-80, there would be no PSG sound in games! Thanks for the clarification, Calpis.

Wow, kinda cute, terribly portable, even if it was a clone, its cool as long as it works. I might have to get one seeing how cool it looks.

All of those are licensed by SEGA and perfectly legal.

Is this radica clone with Sonic 2, and 5 other games, like Ecco The Dolphin , Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle, Columns, Gain Ground, and The Ooze ? Since that one has a power hole in the back too. And I believe the EA shit version, has a powerhole too, in the back. Edit: the EA version, doesn´t have a powerhole (ok it is called d.c. 6V and it is just right next to the audio and videocables ), thank goodnes, that I wrote shit version, since when there is no power, then it is shite ;-)
