I found a pretty cheap RingWide and I was wondering if you needed to be online (on Sega's All.net) in order to actually play the game? I heard conflicting arguments. I've seen a few youtube videos of people playing on their ringwides with no internet connection, but not really sure what to believe lol.
I personally don't know. I would try asking on klov or arcadeotaku. I'm going to say it depends on the game.
You probably are looking at a Ringwide mobo from an MJ5 cab which were recently swapped out, just like what happened with Red Lindberghs the last time around. There is very little software for this platform and are not likely going to find any software only sitting around for sale anywhere.
I've seen ringwide/ringeedge software show up from time to time. Yet even if you get them there is no telling if they would run with out access to sega's all.net.
Talking about the Ringwide.... did that Pengo '1080p remake' ever got released? If so that would be an awesome game to put on the Ringwide.
I was looking at that one a few days ago as well. I don't know but I think melty blood should run without needing a network connection.
Um.... I don't know but I really think they didn't. I can't think of a recent sega release to make it to USA. -edit- Thanks to the internet and the concept of research. Yes some Ringe Edge/Wide games hit USA/Europe. Mostly the racing kind.
RingWide & RingEdge Most Ringwide games can be played without an All.net subscribtion, i have Sonic Sega All Racing Starts and Melty Blood and both works fine without All.net conection. Melty Blood can be played on a Standard Naomi Cabinet, is a 640x480 Game and also can use a standard naomi JVS I/O board. Sonic Sega can be played on a Upright Cabinet or on a Sitdown Cabinet using a Serial FFB PCB, there is a special FFB PCB for Ringwide and RingEdge, but Lindbergh Serial Feedback can also be used, is compatible. All RingEdges in Japan, are used only on Satellite Games, like MJ5 and All.net games, like Border Break and ID6 and needs a server and a conection to All.net, so are useless for 99% of people. In Europe and USA, you can find RingEdges on VT4, Lets Go Island 3D, mostly.
It's kind of retarded how Sega is doing this. Basically when the servers go down, the arcades are fucked. Even if the game itself is still popular (All the ID's are still popular).
I'm fairly certain a persistent connection isn't necessary (the games aren't being "streamed" or anything, nor are they downloaded on each use). I believe they just need to auth each "session" and then the game is allowed to run. Pretty much every Ringwide game you can get (Melty Blood, Chaos Code, Sega Racing All-Stars, etc.) do not require network connections to run. Most Ringedge software (Border Break) and Ringedge 2 software (Under Night In Birth, etc.) require a network connection and a SEGA.NET account. That's a steal for MBAACC, by the way. I'm surprised there wasn't a bidding war for it.
It's usually a heartbeat check at bootup but with Ringwide 2, that is no longer the case once the new network is up and running. Sega has already told operators that to get the latest updates/keep the game playable that they must pay and connect to the network. The reason why no one bid on that one is because of the seller... Also, MBAACC prices are falling just like TTT2U due to lack of popularity, oversaturation and lack of new ideas in the fighting genre.
Yes... TTT2U needs to drop further. =D (I see the one now at 50k and gfront dropped from 110k to 70k as well).
What's up with the seller? I've purchased boards from him before and not experienced any issues. TTT2U should not be usable outside of Japan, I believe, as it also runs on the network system, and operators actually have to "buy" credits to "resell" to players. Fantastic business model.
It can be used outside but yes you got to get around the credit issue. Not sure if it was confirmed in Tag2U (but was in Tag2). To add to the fun, I have Gundam Extreme Vs that I probably will never get to run (It's suppose to be 357 but is not compatible with Tekken 6 pcbs).
Sigh I have it too(5 copies USB/drive)....want mine? lol..I won it off yahoo japan for 4000 yen.....I dunno what I was thinking..
They seem to have dried up though so might still be worth holding on to. =) Also you got luck and got them at the end. I got mine at the start when they went for alot (I paid north of 20k but I did get a lovely namco box and the card readers to go with it). Now if only I could find DBZ. I didn't see any go up after the upgrade to the new version. =( -edit, fun pics-
RingWide on Yahoo I'm the one that bought that RingWide, on yahoo, that seller is fully trustable. The RingWide works very well, was a bit dirty, but after a depp cleaning, now locks like new. About the Edges with MJ5 on Yahoo, well, i bought some units and i'm running on them all RingWide games i have, perfectly. Sonic Sega for example works better on the Edge than on the Wide, on the wide sometimes slowdowns, while on the Edge can be played at 1920x1080 at full speed.
