Now, I'm not a fan of Coronation Street, but there are obviously a fair few as it has been running for so long! And Betty was one of its longest-serving actresses. Elizabeth 'Betty' Driver MBE started acting on stage and screen in the 1930s, joining the cast of Coronation Street comedy spin-off Pardon the Expression! in 1965. She retired shortly after, but was persuaded to come out of retirement to play Betty Turpin in Coronation Street and continued until she was rushed to hospital with pneumonia recently, aged 91. It was a role she loved, saying that she would never retire and they'd have to shoot her if they wanted her to leave! RIP Betty.
