Elton John's long-term bassist Bob Birch was found dead near his home on Wednesday with a gunshot wound in the head, thought to be self-inflicted. Birch has played with many great artists, including George Martin, Eric Clapton, B.B. King, Brian Wilson, Sheryl Crow, Courtney Love, Rufus Wainright, Stevie Wonder, Tina Turner, The Spice Girls, Sting, Keith Emerson, Brian May, Bryan Adams, Little Richard and Billy Joel as both a bassist and saxophanist. If you have heard Elton's Made in England, The Big Picture, Peachtree Road or The Captain & The Kid albums, Corinne Bailey Rae's The Sea or B.B. King's B.B. King & Friends: 80, then you've heard Bob. Oh yes, and a somewhat well-known song - the Princess Diana re-release of Candle in the Wind. http://www.nme.com/news/elton-john/65551 RIP Bob, such a sad loss of a great talent.
