The actor Bob Hoskins has died of pneumonia, aged 71.

Hoskins started on stage before moving to television, including Dennis Potter's Pennies From Heaven. He then went on to star in films, such as Brazil, Mona Lisa, Mermaids, Hook, Enemy at the Gates, Maid in Manhattan and Snow White and the Huntsman. However, he was probably best known for his role as private investigator Eddie Valiant alongside a cartoon rabbit in Who Framed Roger Rabbit. That and, for us, his portrayal of the Italian plumber Mario in Super Mario Bros.

RIP Bob - another great actor sadly gone. Thanks for some great characters!

^^ in a film called 'another 28 days later' also! (small part but equally as vital)
it was ONLY 'brazil' that i saw him in a darker shade, absolutely FANTASTIC!
    ....
    he'll be sorely missed! :(
    ....
    [edit]
correction: it was 'doomsday' he was in, very similar to 'another 28 days' in premise, but more of a human aftermath!

He was a memorable actor, not one that was only average; he will be missed.

Bob was a classic of my generation, sad to see him go. I might have to revisit Who Framed Roger Rabbit sometime, it was always one of my favorite movies.

Sad to hear this, when he was in "Hook" with the salt and pepper beard and glasses he was a spitting image of the foreman of an old work place. RIP.

I actually did that quite recently. Cheesy as it is, I want to revisit Super Mario Bros. ;)

That's sad news. Only last moth I was watching Who Framed Rodger Rabbit with my son. I liked Bob even if he was basically the same in every movie. RIP.
