The actor James Avery has died aged 65, following complications from heart surgery.

Avery appeared in many popular television shows, especially cartoons, including Rambo, The Real Ghost Busters, L.A. Law, Aladdin, Iron Man and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. His film appearances included The Blues Brothers, Fletch and the English dub of Fist of the North Star. However, he was best known for his role as Uncle Phil in The Fresh Prince of Bel Air.

RIP James - thanks for some memorable characters from my childhood - particularly Uncle Phil, Shredder and War Machine.

Another sad loss. Awesome as the voice of Shredder, as Uncle Phil, and as Les's test instructor in License To Drive. "Buckle up son, it's the real world out here!"
