He was an executive for Warner Brothers and recently chairman of Sony Pictures and known for making them profitable. He did not really produce that many movies (and gernerally he worked with other people unless you go back to the 60s...) and personally I would have mentioned "Remains of the day" and "Catch-22" rather then the average rubbish that were the two you mentioned.
True, Catch-22 is excellent. Unfortunately, most people nowadays haven't seen it, so the Hanks stuff is what people remember. Yeah, it's a shame - and yes, they're overrated!
