The actor, director and producer The Rt Hon. The Lord Attenborough, CBE (Richard Attenborough to us!) has died aged 90.

Attenborough's entertainment career spanned an amazing seven decades. He rose to fame in the Forties in films such as Brighton Rock, but it was as a director he made his biggest impression with films such as A Bridge Too Far and Gandhi, the latter netting him Oscars for Best Picture and Best Director, the same BAFTAs and a Golden Globe for Best Director of a Motion Picture. He played very prominent roles in several films in the Nineties, including Jurassic Park and Miracle on 34th Street.

He still found time for other activities, as president of the Muscular Dystrophy campaign, director of Chelsea Football Club for 13 years (later Life Vice President), amongst other ventures.

RIP Lord Attenborough - another classic actor sadly no longer with us. Thanks for some truly memorable films.
