The actress Mary Tyler Moore has died aged 80 of a heart attack following complications from pneumonia.

Moore started her career in a series of television commercials for Hotpoint. Several anonymous modelling jobs for album covers followed, and a part of a secretary whose face wasn't seen in Richard Diamond, Private Detective. She was then cast in The Dick Van Dyke Show, after which she got her own show. Film credits include X-15, Thoroughly Modern Millie and Ordinary People, for which she won an Oscar.
