The director, producer, actor and comedian Mike Nichols has died of a heart attack, aged 83. Nichols had an interesting career. After joining the Actors Studio, he became a comedian in a duo with Elaine May. They won a Grammy for Best Comedy Album in 1962. He then became a theatre director, directing such Broadway plays as Barefoot in the Park, The Odd Couple and, later in his career, Annie, Spamalot and Death of a Salesman. Billed as the most in-demand director in the American theatre, he was offered the film adaptation of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? by Warner Bros. Other successes during his career included The Graduate and Working Girl, the former winning him Best Director Oscar, Golden Globe and BAFTA awards. He won eight Tony awards, making him one of few people to win an Emmy, Oscar, Grammy and Tony. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-30129848 RIP Mike - thanks for some great productions.
