The actor Om Puri has died aged 66, after suffering a heart attack. Puri started his career in Bollywood films in his homeland in the Seventies and rose to prominence in the Eighties in films such as Aakrosh, Arohan and Ardh Satya. He won Filmfare's Best Supporting Actor award for the former and won National Film Awards for Best Actor two years running with the latter two. He had a bit part in Ghandi, but became more prominent in the West in the Nineties and Noughties with British and Hollywood movies including Wolf, The Ghost and the Darkness, My Son the Fanatic, The Parole Officer and Charlie Wilson's War. However, he is probably best known in the West for his BAFTA-nominated performance in East is East and perhaps in India for A.K. 47, made in the same year. His contribution to the British film industry earned him an honorary OBE in 2004 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-india-38527232 RIP Om - thanks for some memorable roles.... and a celebrity stealing my seat in the cinema when I went to watch one of your films!
