The legendary singer-songwriter and producer Cecil Bustamente Campbell, better known as Prince Buster, has died aged 78. Campbell was a promising street fighter and gang leader, but he also sang in bands. When he got the attention of Clement "Coxsone" Dodd, who ran Kingston's Downbeat sound system, he became his security guard and assistant. He then opened his own record shop and started his own sound system, Voice of the People. Wanting to import the latest records from America, he applied to a Farm Work Program, but was refused entry. So he decided to record his own music! One of his earliest offerings in the studio was actually producing a record for the Folkes Brothers - Oh Carolina. He also recorded a string of hits, including Madness, One Step Beyond and Al Capone. In doing so, he played a key part in the birth of ska music. https://www.theguardian.com/music/2016/sep/08/prince-buster-obituary-ska-musica-jamiaca RIP Prince Buster, King of Ska. Thanks for some great songs, a great genre of music and playing a huge part in my own career.
His music is great and very relaxing. Remember the summers I have spent listen to his music while laying in parks....
