Legendary visual effects technician and producer Ray Harryhausen has died aged 92.

Harryhausen began his career working alongside animation pioneer Willis O'Brien on Mighty Joe Young. He went on to work on popular titles such as Don Chaffey's Jason and the Argonauts and One Million Years B.C., The Golden Voyage of Sinbad and Clash of the Titans. His work went on to inspire several industry veterans to take up their career, from directors such as Steven Spielberg, Peter Jackson, James Cameron, George Lucas and John Landis to animators including Aardman Animations co-founder Peter Lord and Wallace and Gromit creator Nick Park.

RIP Ray. You inspired me to take a huge interest in the movie industry, particularly special effects and animation. Thanks for helping to create that spark in me, and countless others.

He was indeed the pioneer of the visual effects. Seeing his work in the likes of Jason and the Argonauts, The Golden Voyage of Sindbad and Clash of the Titans as a kid wowed me. Nobody can say the battle with skeletons wasn't cool for it's time.
