The actor Richard Griffiths has died aged 65, after undergoing heart surgery. He was best known for his television role on Pie in the Sky and film roles such as Vernon Dursley in the Harry Potter films and Uncle Monty in Withnail and I. Griffiths was well known as a stage and television actor, but also made several movies. His film credits include Superman II, Chariots of Fire, The French Lieutenant's Woman, Gandhi, Withnail and I, King Ralph, The Naked Gun 2 1/2, Sleepy Hollow, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Hugo and the Harry Potter series.
