I keep waking up to terrible news! Roy Scheider who is probably most instantly recognised as 'Chief Brody' in the 'Jaws' films has passed away aged 75. As my signature testifies, I am a huge fan of Jaws and in particular of the performances put in by the amazing cast of male characters. Richard Dreyfus, Robert Shaw & Murray Hamilton all offered very real performances, but in particular Scheider stood out. It was little things like the scene when he is talking to his youngest son and he bent forward to kiss him that made the human angle of the character incredibly realistic. Jaws set a benchmark and in my opinion remains as a perfect example of a simple, yet powerful story well told. The actors made the film & the soundtrack topped it off. Rest in peace Mr. Scheider. I suspect that very shortly I'll go back and watch Jaws & The French Connection.
For anyone who didn't see it - here's his Orange Film Commission advert (these run before movies in the UK as a reminder to switch your phone off): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YlX9G7s2AnQ
