    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/13785/essentials-2012-release-notes

It has come to our attention that on Janurary 10, 2017, Windows Movie Maker was discontinued along with its buddies in the Windows Essentials 2012 pack. No replacement has been announced. It is no longer available to download from Microsoft.

It was released on September 14, 2000 with.... Windows ME!!! *gags*.... *cough* Excuse me, what were we talking about? Ah yes, I remember now! Windows Movie Maker provided a free way of editing videos in Windows ME/XP/Vista out of the box. Many people started video editing in it and continue using it for simple video editing to this very day.

17 years is a long time for a program lifespan. What are some of your experiences with Windows Movie Maker? I personally used it just to piece separate video clips together that were edited in another program.

Oh yeah, almost forgot! Press the USE key to pay respects.

    Interesting they are dropping this.

For comparison, iMovie still helps a lot of people in the process of making/editing videos for youtube.

It will get a UWP replacement with less features and an awful UX soon enough.

    E
(who uses F as the use key? probably the same heretics that use C for crouch)

Before edits flooded youtube I used windows movie maker to rearrange every scene in Memento to be in the correct order. Took 2 days and I did it when I was sick and staying home from school. Windows Movie Maker will be missed. :(

Used just for a few times, but it compressed the files very well (at least considering the program)

I use Left Ctrl for crouch... I swap between E and F depending on the game. Most of the time I use E though. Just thought of CoD1 when I posted the USE key thing. That used F for the USE key iirc.

I still use this for basic editing, I cannot believe they dropped support.

Hey, C for crouch is way easier than Ctrl when you're in the heat of battle. I use C toggle crouch in CSGO.

Windows 7 also has it "out of the box".
    Never used btw.
But I doubt you can't download anymore. You can download Zune, IE8, many several older software. Removing the downloads for this is unnecessary I suppose. At least if they don't need to pay anything for the movie industry or there's a security issue...

RIP Windows Movie Maker, you made some crappy, yet admirable entertainment through YouTube Poops until Vista launched.

I still use Windows Movie maker. Hopefully theres a backup of the dl uploaded somewhere. For simple editing it's pretty good. I think I'll use it till it can no longer be used.

As for people still using WMP. I use it to play single mp3's. Cause if I try to use it in iTunes it adds it to the library. I don't want every file I play to be added to the library.

I absolutely love Windows Movie Maker. Good news! You can still use it. I have it downloaded and it works just fine. Have you tried it recently?
