Rarest Spectrum Game ??? Hello there, I have (what I believe to be) a rare Codemasters game. It is a special version of the Codemasters Gold game 'Rock Star Ate My Hamster' titled 'Rock Star Goes Bizarre'. The Sun (U.K.) newspaper commissioned a special edition of the Codemasters music management sim in 1988 as a competition tie in to coincide with the games initial release. There were 10 runner up prizes across 3 formats (Spectrum, Amstrad & Commodore 8 bits), the aforementioned 'Rock Star Goes Bizarre'. My version is for the Sinclair ZX Spectrum. 'Bizarre' is packaged in a plastic case, as opposed to 'Hamster's cardboard box, the game itself has it's own loading screen, as well as extra characters. Here they are, side by side. - I have been in touch with World of Spectrum, but they are unaware of any other Spectrum copies existing, or other formats for that matter. Does anybody out there own this game, or even know about this game ? Everyone that i've spoken to seems to have no knowledge of this game at all, The only mentions on the entire net are from my posts, however the programmer (Colin Bradshaw-Jones) made a mention of it in an interview with Retro Gamer magazine about a year ago. I would love to know if any other copies exist anywhere, especially on the other formats. Anybody ???
First things first, make sure you've got it backed up. If it's as rare as it sounds it'd be a shame to lose it.
Hi I'm sure i had this on Amstrad 464 it's a sim (well comedy game) only the standard version Rock Star Ate My Hamster though It was fun to myself and my friends although we were about nine or ten I'm sure you had to keep your artist in the charts and make it to number one Lot's of 80s jokes and "stars" probably awful if you played it today! I don't remember much more sadly:shrug:
I don't think he's talking about the standard version, though - that's pretty common. Interesting find - let me know if you ever decide to sell! ;-)
OK, since I originally made this post I have been searching for information on any existing copies of this game. I have spoken to Codemasters, but they had no idea what I was on about. There is still no info out there, I may contact The Sun to see if they have any details. It's looking like mine is the only copy, so I guess this is as rare as it comes. If only one copy exists, does this make 'Rock Star Goes Bizarre' the rarest 8 bit/Spectrum game ???
Is the game actually different or is it just the insert/box that's different? http://www.worldofspectrum.org/infoseek.cgi?regexp=^Rock+Star+Goes+Bizarre$&loadpics=1
Very awesome find ! you have something very rare right there ! 1 of only 10 copys ever made ? DAMN!!!!! and if its the only one left in existence everyone who owns this system will be jealous
The game has added characters & possibly added scenes/scenarios, Sorry to be shaky on the information about the actual game, but I haven't played it for well over 20 years. Well, this is the thing....... It's become my mission to find out if mine is the only copy in existence, As I said, there was only 10 copies over 3 formats, so it's definitely very rare. However, if there really is only one existing copy then it's ultra rare. I don't know of any other released game that only has one copy, on any format. The search continues.................
