A little while ago, Skaarg, a person who happens to come to ASSEMbler, Rockman Perfect Memories, and Sonic Retro, released an pre-release version of Rockman X6 (Mega Man X6) dated a couple months before the game's final release. His announcement post, copy/pasted from Retro.
So I bought this little number off DreamTR on ASSEMbler's forums. I got it today (my birthday!), and the findings in it so far are pretty sweet! Try to access the controller setup screen from the start menu you get this oddity.. Bosses have the skull icon seen in early screenshots. Also does anyone know if in Rockman X6 (not US) there is a voice that says warning very blandly before each boss, because this does. I need some power ups... A dump will be coming shortly either tonight or tomorrow. I don't have a working cd-rom drive at the moment (yeah yeah I know they're only like $20), but my friend is bring his laptop over so I can dump it!
And he did rip the disc for the rest of the internet and time to enjoy.
And it is dumped! (See link below) If someone has a better mirror or host feel free to spread around! Some more images from an emulator (sorry I forgot to trim them <_<): Trying to access memory card from title screen... Now do you see where I thought it said X5 for a second? =P Nice Sketch! Parts Screen sketches.. I save no one! (You can rescue them though.) Hey X you're going the wrong way and attacking the air... By the way there's no armor or hearts...
Rockman X6 9-28-01.rar (Click to download) Differences include (From Protodude's Rockman Corner): The Nightmare System, while present, is not indicated by red boss portraits on the stage select screen. Stages lack armor capsules and heart tanks. Controller options, save menu and loading screens are graphically broken. As seen in pre-release screenshots, minor bosses have a skull emblem under their life-bars. The boss approach "WARNING" alert is vocalized. There are no sound effects during cut-scenes (such as hums of machines or howling winds). Falcon Armor's Giga Attack lacks sound effects. Stage background graphics are incomplete and glitchy in some areas. High Max's battle sprite is a brighter hue. Nightmare Viruses in Commander Yammark's stage do not infect rescuable Reploids. When fighting Nightmare Zero, his armor is traditional red whereas in the final, it's purple/pink. Rainy Turtloid and opening stage BGMs are slightly different, lacking instruments. (The music is shown below this post) As seen in early screens, the giant Reploid, Illumina, is restrained by energy cables. There's a brief conversation between X and Infinity Mijinion upon entering his stage. In the final, this conversation takes place when confronting Mijinion at stage's end. Portals to the secondary paths are green instead of blue. Falcon Armor dashes at a slightly longer distance than final's. Alternate music tracks: I ripped the game's XA music format, and I've uploaded one of the very few alternate tracks from the prototype to YouTube. So far, the only tracks known to sound different from the final are the Opening Stage and Rainy Turtloid's Stage Theme. I've just uploaded the prototype version of the Opening Stage theme on YouTube for your eyes and ears to enjoy. =) I'm doing this so no one has to! (Click to view) Opening Stage - Prototype Mix Rainy Turtloid's Stage - Prototype Mix (Actually, this one was uploaded and ripped by Zenocide himself) Huge props for Skaarg for the prototype.
Amazingly sweet. Thanks for making this possible guys. Let this be a sign of more X betas coming! (praying for MMX1-3)
Thanks for posting over here Keiji. I was trying to completely beat it, but ran into a bit of a stop when in a nightmare stage the level couldn't be completed due to poor object placement which blocked the path. I've been sick though the past week so I'm going to try again sometime soon, possibly Sunday. I'm just curious if it is completely finishable and has the original endings and stuff. It should work on your PS2 with the swap trick. I used the game enhancer swap trick to play this on my PS1. On a side note, I've been in contact with the guy who purchased the Mega Man X Command Mission prototypes from DreamTR he says he has the PS2 one dumped, but neither of us knows how to dump the GC NR disc. Will the PSO swap trick to dump over the broadband adapter work?
No problem. Also, judging from games XA-directory folder, which contains the game ending theme song "I.D.E.A." by ROST, the prototype probably does lead to an ending. Which game enhancer trick would you be referring to? I happen to have a late-gen GameShark disc for PSone. Also, I have a Action Replay MAX for PS2, could I still use that?
You have to have the old style system with the parallel port in the back. I know there were Game Sharks that plugged in there, but I just have a similar one called Game Enhancer. You plug that cheat device in, tape down the sensor so the system thinks the lid is closed, put in a retail disc and start it, wait for the disc to stop and then swap discs, and then start the game. I'm sure there's methods for the PSone or PS2, this is just what I know and use for my old system.
Sounds risky and complicated. Anyone else here know of any alternatives? I don't want to risk damaging the lens of the console.
Just wanted to thank Skaarg for submitting this to the redump disc preservation project. http://redump.org/disc/15989/
