To my momentous joy, the Everdrive64 I recently ordered arrived in the mail today. I formatted the SD card, put the OS files on it, and so forth. However, I'm having a problem. Whenever I try to load a rom, I get an error message saying "rom load error: 109". I tried with two different roms, and I know that at least one of them (and probably the other) is a perfectly good rom. I tried lowering the SD speed, but it didn't help. I don't know if this is relevant, but I am using a Ubuntu computer to put the files on the card, and the strangest thing happens. After I remove the card from the ED64 and connect it to my computer again, it's stuck in read-only mode. I did a bit of googling and apparently there's a big sticky widespread issue with Ubuntu forcing SD cards into read-only mode. I quickly tried a couple fixes and they didn't work; the only thing that puts it back into read-write mode is to format it again. But it's strange, because it only gets stuck in read-only mode after I take it out of the Everdrive and then put it back into the computer. I'm not sure if this has any connection at all to the rom load error, but I figured I should mention it. EDIT: I read the FAQ, and saw the part where it says the SD card should be class 6 or 10. The one I'm using is class 4. Could that account for the error?
Class 6+ only if you want to get max speed out of ROM loading, but Class 4 should not cause this error. Class 4 would just load ROMs slightly slower (probably barely even noticeable). My suggestion would be try on Windows or Mac computer. Second would be try more ROMs. Third would be to have someone provide you a ROM that is known to work. You should use process of elimination.
