With respect to my UK buddies, who cares? It's just another wedding..not much of a show there in my view. It's not like there's a donkey show or anything. edit: nice link though ! lol
It would actually be worth watching if it was like this. Unfortunately, it isn't I don't get it anyway. These are just people... useless, spoiled people! Like Harry, her bird-killing grand-mother and all the others who have never worked for a single penny in their whole lives yet live like billionaires and take it for granted. The marriage costs the British tax payer 25 million pounds. Personally, I'd take that as an invitation to throw a rotten tomato in the queen's face
Yup. I've never been into the whole cult of celebrity thing anyway, but it's especially bad when their only claim to fame is that one of them has "royal blood", which is in itself based on total bullshit anyway. People should be equal from birth (at least in theory), "royal families" don't belong to the 21st century.
Im glad I download or buy TV programs on DVD when they come out then because TV is going to be shite the day of the wedding!
It's shit every day regardless; makeover shows, cooking shows, celebrity ego-wanking shows, half baked 'game shows' aimed at people with the intelligence quotient of a paper cup, the list goes on and the tidal wave of tripe is never ending. Dumbed down programming for a nation of dumbed down people where Heat and OK celebrities are revered and everyone else is either ignored or scorned. This country is fucked.
You know what really gets my goat though? The moaners. On both sides of the camp, it's just whine whine whine. "Oh, I don't understand why people hate it!" "Oh, I'm making loud noises that I don't like it." Honestly, if you don't want to watch it then *gasp* you don't have to watch it. Shockingly, weddings are lovey-dovey and not for everyone. It is everywhere because it's the only positive thing the news can cover, what with everything going on. It's very sad that people are so vehemently opposed to 2 people getting married, with all the pomp and circumstance that happens around every wedding. You may as well try and enjoy at least having the day off to do something else, otherwise you'll become one of those angry old people that everyone avoids. Personally, I'm likely to not watch it but I may go to a party if there's one going.
I stopped watching TV years ago. Only time Is when theres something I can't wait to buy/download (Skins in particular)
My gripe isn't about the Royal Wedding, I couldn't give a monkeys toss about it, my problem is the bigger picture of TV in general. By kow-towing to the lowest common denominator - which is all that television seems to do these days - you alienate over two thirds of your possible audience, but that doesn't stop media types aiming audio-visual swill at the cattle class whose one aspiration in life is to be an audience member on the Jeremy Kyle Show. I hope the couple have a long and happy life and marriage together but already work has been done on the girl to make her more photo and telegenic, she was whisked away to get her teeth done because her soon to be royal smile wasn't seen as straight and spangly enough. Add to that that she is now to be referred to as Katherine as opposed to Kate and you can see that the whole shooting match is little more than an exercise in Public Relations than a genuine show of affection between two people who love each other. Whoever it was that said television was chewing gum for the eyes was dead right: it's ok for the first few minutes then very quickly loses it's flavour and leaves you with a bitter taste in your mouth.
And also the stranglehold TV has over society now is pathetic especially here in the UK. Lets say I didn't watch TV whatsoever and just used it for consoles, I would have to own a TV license. Fuck the BBC, Its shitty sensationalized news and its shitty programming. If you want to charge for your services become a cable channel and make people pay extra. The BBC didn't invent the TV so why do they get to charge people for using one?
Cyantist the TV licence is not for owning a TV but for wtchng live streams. I wtch iPlayer on my TV and it is legal. WHy? Because the programs are prerecorded - they are not broadcst live nor do I use the live broadcasts FYI mooseblaster... I'm already on my way to becoming one of those angry old people that everyone avoids and content with it. George Carlin did allright! As for the wedding I am also not aginst two people who want to get married to each other getting married, I just couldn't give a fuck so I don't want it in my face wherever I go. Their marriage their business, not mine nor do I want to make it my business nor have it thrust upon me.
Yes but wether or not I actually watch the 'live streams' (which are just TV channels really) I would still have to pay for it.
Nope. I haven't paid for a TV licnce since 2006. They know the situation. The licence isn't for the TV, it is for the TV live streams. If you use the live stream (Channels) at any point in the year then you're liable. If you don't nor do you intend to, then you can have a TV for pre-recorded shows such as iPlayer, DVD's or gaming with no licence NP - I guarantee it. On the other hand if you have a computer wth a DVB cpture card or something and you do watch live or record streams with it, then you also become liable.
Watching iPlayer on a computer may be a loophole but they'll close that one sometime soon I imagine. Normally I take this approach. The difference with this wedding is that it's everywhere. I don't watch TV, I don't listen to radio and I don't read tabloids but even I'm sick of hearing about these two. Two toffs with daft names and sillier titles are getting married, who gives a shit. I'll be glad when it's all over and we can go back to pretending they don't exist.
I'll be doing everything I can to escape it. Couldn't care less. It's just an extra day when the shops are annoyingly closed. Unless she of course she wears that see through dress again.
Interesting reads in the thread To be honest I wish that 25 million went to some better/more humanitarian cause but I guess people dying is not much of a spectacle compared to this. I mean hell, even CNN is talking all the time about it and that's pretty low - I m more concerned with real world news than fairytale pitching.
