    Hey Everyone,

I was recently interested in getting a Rubik's Cube since the one I have is really cheap and always gets stuck when you turn it. Does anyone know of a really good Rubik's Cube which moves smoothly and never gets stuck?

I have an original Rubik's cube, and I used some silicone oil so it moves smoothly. The cube cost me 13€, the silicone oil costs 2€.

My brother has a speed cube from a Swiss company, also with silicone oil applied. The speed cube costs 20€.

Hrm... I ended up getting a GuHong Stickerless Chinese speed cube since it was really cheap. It's not tournament legal since being stickerless gives players look-ahead advantage for cube sides, but for just general "playing around" hopefully it will do just fine.

I think their sticker cubes are perfectly legal however. Just these fancy ones with Transparent plastic, solid colors, etc are not.

I hope the build quality is ok.

Once again, I can really recommend that silicone oil. Worked wonders even on our cheap 2€ cube!

Just out of curiosity, could you give a brief explanation as to how you would get an advantage? I can't envisage it in my head. Ta.

Because the peices are solid plastic, at 45 degree twists you can see the seams of the plastic joins that run down each face. Because those plastic pieces are of a solid color, you can see from a birds eye view what colors are on the sides of the Rubik Cube without actually looking at the sides. For top speed players it might not make much of a difference, but it's a diffrence non the less.

Aah, I get you, I was thinking that it was somehow transparent. Thanks for the explanation.

i have a DIY cube. It's clear blue for it's base, you can remove the axis peice and adjust the tension to your hearts content for each side.

Is opening a cube a pain? How does adjusting the tension go?

Opening the cube is really easy, adjusting the tension works via a screw which sits under a cap in the center piece. Just loosen/tighten it until you are comfortable with the tension. Having the cube too loose can result in the edges accidentally falling off ;-)

to open it you just pull one of the middle edge pieces. As far as this goes - the center of each side has a cap. you pull it off and there's a screw that let's you adjust it. :) My fiancée has a pink one.
