Indeed, Nintendo's goal was always (and is still) to provide video games systems at accessible price. And the recent NX portpone is probably because of this reason.

The main reason I don't have a Wii U is because I limited myself to one system this gen... Silly I know... But I barely have time to play albeit finish a game these days :( Quite interested to see how the NX shapes out hopefully it's not tablet only. Grown tired of playing mobile games...

Not entirely correct, it seemed to vary. By a lot of measures the N64 was more powerful than the PS1, but it was held back by comparatively little storage and Nintendo's reluctance to document the GPU microcode in combination with the default microcode being fairly slow. The Gamecube was similarly the most powerful console of its generation, but Nintendo's reputation with developers and their general reluctant developer support at the time didn't help. You could make a case for the NES too, but that's treading into more murky water since it gets vague who exactly their competitors were.

Rumour's to be handled as any rumour, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was powered by Tegra chips. After all, that's what early 3DS prototypes also used.

Why can't they stick with something for more than a few years?

Atari 2600 was supported from initial release of 1977 until into 1993 with their fun is back for 50 bucks ad. Now a day, the "support" for old console is emulation in newer console for a year or 2 then it's quietly discontinued. Early PS3 supported most PS2 but later model ended support. Early Wii (just about all the white ones) had GC support and later GC doesn't support GC games even if the spash screen shows GC and Wii discs while waiting to load. Betting that in the near future a newer 3DS/2DS will not be able to support older DS carts.

If their games remain solid and worth buying, hardware is irrelevant.

I guess the new Zelda will get a Twilight Princess style dual-release on Wii U/NX.

While I can definitely agree with you guys that hardware isn't everything, I think that the Wii and Wii U felt gimmicky. I want a more traditional controller like their efforts before the wii, and I would rather have the money go into the console hardware than some tablet controller like wii u. I buy the Nintendo handhelds when I want to game on the go. Wii was wildly successful and got many people playing games than previously didn't. I felt like they lost touch with much of their fanbase that supported their previous efforts. Their creativity and ingenuity has kept them alive. Nintendo has so many IPs going unused that deserve a ressurection. Although I don't know how feasible it is, there is the rumor of NX being cartridge based. Maybe it's nostalgia for me, but I would welcome the return to cartridge format.

As Nintendo goal is always to be able to sell at lower price, after a certain amount of time, and when the software catalogue is big enought, they sometime sell unity without backward compatibility. I don't know where is the problem for Wii and 3DS as there is a huge amount of games. If they had done that with the Wii U, we were right to be a bit upset, as there is not a lot of games.

Wii Mini, for example, was a cheap way to get into video game world if you are not already into it. And people who have bought this unit where probably not looking for backward compatibility.

    Wii, yes. Wii U, no.

Seriously, do you have any idea how convenient it is to play Zelda games with a touch screen? Or any game that involves inventory management? (Batman, Deus Ex)

The Wii U was a fantastic idea, and really shined when its screen usage was subtle (Zelda, Batman, Deus Ex, Splatoon, etc.) as opposed to the focal point. That said, I wouldn't be willing to play Mario Maker any other way now.

Sad that there is not a lot of games using the screen as it should be.

I do enjoy the touch screen for the Zelda games on 3ds, so I understand your reasoning. What if they give us a traditional controller, with a touchscreen built into it? I think that would be good. Like in the spot the ps4 controller has the clicky button with the speaker, but instead a touchscreen in the middle of the controller.

Hmmm. AMD "accidentally" leaked that they have new chip sales incoming with Nintendo though, which would make sense considering their long history together. I don't think they are going with Nvidia this time around.

Could they use the Nvidia chip in the "tablet" controller and a AMD CPU in the main console?

Man, can't wait for E3, so many questions.

But again, they're not showing off anything NX-related at E3. It's literally just ZeldaU.
