Just read this on a Dutch website, Sen Gamer (translation by yours truly): "PSP can be connected to Xbox Gamesystem 04/10 - 09:01 PSP, Sony's new portable game system, will be able to connect with Microsoft's Xbox game system, some game developers say. It has been known earlier that the PSP can connect to a PC and a PS2 game system. Media files can then be transferred from the PC, whereas the PS2 connection will be used to transfer game data. However, several documents, intended for developers, supposedly mention the option of connecting with a Microsoft Xbox. Experts tout this option as "remarkable, but smart". It sounds unbelievable that the PSP can be connected to a competitor's game system. "Independent game developers like Atari, EA and Ubisoft will have the option of implementing the same connectivity features in the Xbox versions of their games as in the PS2 versions". Some possibilities of the PS2-PSP connection are downloading game demos, to the PSP, exchanging savegames and unlocking certain parts of the game. This should then also be available for an Xbox connected to the PSP. The PSP will retail in March 2005." Original article - http://www.sengamer.nl/nieuws.php?id=131
I don't think that would be likely to happen. That would be helping the enemy and i don't think M$ helps their enemy the just buy em :smt043
Well it's happened with consoles form different manfacturers who were in different markets - with SNK and SEGA. So perhaps it is possible.. Then again SONY *is* in the home market and the ay it looks down with such disdain on its competitors - seriously unlikely this will happen.
Especially an American company like Microsoft. Sony gain nothing from letting Xbox use PSP whatsoever. It's like saying "sure, go buy/use the opposition's hardware, we don't mind". It's also encouraging people to spend time on their Xboxes... and it's just not a "Sony" thing to do.
Nothing too special it will probably just use a usb connection just as it would for ps2. If sony & m$ don't support the xbox linkup i'm sure many other people will have a go at it.
That website sortof reminds me of the people I see who walk into the local gamestores and tell the clerks, "So, I hear that Halo is coming out for PS2/Gamecube. What's the release date?" :smt043
just complet lies... this won't happen , that's sure. that would be really stupid. ''oh , yeah, ps2 is the best ! don't buy an xbox, that's shit! but if you whant or already have one, we suport it too!'' Argghh..... that's just rumors that casual players try to implent, to make them feel like they know the story and the market behind video games (hey , antipasta, i don't say you are a casual player , you didn't made this rumor , heh? ;-) )
It's certainly possible for developers who want to devolop the tools to do so. The XBox Next is going to be using standard USB ports and the PSP has a USB port to connect to the PS2 so it's really up to the developer. I doubt MS would care because if anything they are prevent people from choosing a PS2/PS3 game over a Xbox Next version game because of the fact that both have equal connectivity options.
I doubt USB ports will help Xenon for piracy. Just hook up a dvd burner and a couple hard drives and bam! best thing for linux
Most dutch websites just copy-paste and translate from big english sites, we have almost no gaming sites the size of say ign or gamespot :-D
I know this sounds like a load of crap, I just translated it for you guys as it was posted on www.tweakers.net (which *is* a pretty big website in Holland)
Don't get us wrong, the non-Dutch members here are very grateful for translations of gaming news from ANY foreign languages, we're all just such jaded gamers that most odd news articles are bullshit until proven guilty. :smt043 I just mainly don't see the PSP <-> XBox hookup because if anything, Sony would hate to have its elegant Japanese handheld work with the barbaric American megalith, but then again, ShadowOfBob made a good point - if your sole reason for buying the PS2 version of a game was because it linked with your new PSP but the graphically superior XBox version didn't, you might gain some extra sales for Microsoft's box were you to include the PSP linkup option as well...
If Sony don't want others to use their PSP, couldn't they put some proprietary copyrighted code at the start of all transfers through the usb port? Like verifications that you're using something at the other end licensed from them?
yes, the could , and they will . just try to read a ps2 disc on xbox , it won't work , because the xbox know its not an xbox game and/or the game ''know'' its not a ps2.
Errr... just browsed over to ps2ownz.com and what did I see: Part of that text seems to come straight out of my translation :smt030 rayer: :smt033
