    All i can tell all homebrew stuff find resources here: http://ps2dev.org/ and as far as i know all are for normal PS2. I think TEST PS2 are in the same category as Gamecube NR Readers. It won't load unnoficial programs (mostly because they are made with free and unnoficial LIBs and SDKs.

    I tested the latest SMS 1.4 Rev.8. It's a video player, that can play DivX, with subtitles in separated .srt files. It can load videos from the CD or DVD, the HDD (probably copied using uLaunchELF 3.41p FTP service), USB (yep!) or even Network (Naplink maybe). Tested it with some BBC Top Gear's episodes :D

    Verbatim seems to be the "gold standard" when it comes to DVD-R discs. I've never seen a properly burned Verbatim disc fail to boot on a dev system.

    I'd say it's more of a CD-RW vs CD-R problem than anything else - CD-RWs are slightly less reflective so systems that aren't designed to read them sometimes struggle to pick up the data. I've had the same problem with JagCDs, always takes you ages to figure out :banghead: ;-)

    The TOOLs are very picky about what media they will work with. I imagine the test kits are the same.

    Avoid coloured disks. The only thing we got to work reliably were Sony silvers, and even with those we had a batch of dodgy disk that refused to work with one particular TOOL.

    I use Sony CD-Rs and DVD+Rs on my DTL-H30002. games and homebrewn demos boot without any problems.

    Have you tried to boot your elf files with naplink?

    I just collect demos from the net. Mostly I got these as bin or ISO files.

    I own my TEST modell since 3 months or so. I haven't tested all my demos until now. I just checked which type of CD-R works fine on these system.

    yesterday evening I checked all my demo discs. The result: all discs with a SLES or SCES file boot correctly. discs which contain an ELF file won't boot directly :( But I can start these discs with the Action Replay. I use AR2 V2.

    I tried to burn a simple elf file. I used CDGen. I patched the bin file with PS2 Disc Patcher v3.0. unfortunately the cd can't boot directly. It works only with the action replay.

    is there a difference between elf files and sles / sces files? I thought these files are the same as elf files (just another name).

    does it matter what do you write in the SYSTEM.CNF ?

    BOOT2 = cdrom0:\SCES_500.00;1
    VER = 1.10
    VMODE = PAL

    I don't know for what the VER parameter is.

    The SCES part of the BOOT name is the region code. So far as I remember, SCES is Sony 1st party for Europe. You also have SLES which is 3rd party Europe, and SLUS which is 3rd party USA. Can't remember the other codes.

    The numbers following are the product code. If for example your product code was 12345, then you may have BESLES123.45. I think you then have to match up the information in CDDVDGEN to match this information.

    The ;1 by the way is a file name terminator. It is not a part of the file name.

    Rename your .elf file match your boot filename (e.g. BESLES12.45) and burn it to the disk.

    I tried to burn another demo called XMAS 2001 from Napalm. But I cannot boot it on the TEST. even the action replay trick fails :( This happens to me the first time.

    if the action replay won't boot the disc, I can only try to run the ELF file with Naplink. I will test that tomorrow. It's late ;)

    I can boot the XMAS 2001 demo with naplink. so if you would like to use your TEST for development, try it with naplink. I think that's the only way at the moment :-(
