Okay, I was about to install my Marlin when I realized I didn't have a dedicated IDE connection on my mobo for it. Anyway, before I go out and buy an IDE controller or whatever I wanted to make certain that the software for my DDHs will run properly on Windows XP. The manual says 2000 Pro or NT 4.X, but i currently have neither. Also, one of my DDHs displays an E when it is turned on but not connected (obviously). Is this problem fixable without losing the data on the hard drive? Oh, and I've been wondering, is there any actual differances between the beta and normal versions of the GCP-2000 besides the stickers? Thanks
How about XP home? Basically, I've already spent a lot of money trying to get my first DDH working (thus the second DDH) and I want to be able to get it up and fully running as cheaply as possible. Do I have to network the DDHs to get them fully operational? Oh, and does anyone recommend a specific IDE controller? Sorry about all the questions.
As to your question, XP Home is essentially the same thing as Pro with the latest Service Packs added in. There shouldnt be any trouble running it, given that XP Pro runs it.
Just to add in, the main differences between home and Pro are in networking, and as such shouldn't be a problem. All you need to be able to install is drivers and software.
On a side note, there's quite a few "engrish" in the Dolphin's development software, including the ODEM GUI
Alright, so I got an ide controller, I installed it and the marlin, hooked everything up and spent all night tinkering with both DDHs and...I still don't have a working setup, but it does take a lot longer for my computer to boot up now. I think part of the problem is that I might need the actual sdk to get it "fully" working, but as it stands, I can't even access the harddrives on the DDHs as their own drives, with their own drive letters. Now, one of them I don't want to reformat as I'm hoping there is info on the drive, but the other is brand new, but neither one seems to work quite right. I can run most of the commands in the command prompt, but SetDVDDriveLetter * does not work. I've followed the installation instructions exactly, but for some reason my computer recognizes the harddrives in the DDHs, but wont let me "access" them. At this point, I am incredibly frustrated, and at one point in the evening thought I'd just sell everything except one tower as I don't seem to be having too much luck. It just really sucks because I have spent so much time and money trying to get these things to work, and I always seem to be just one small step away. If anyone here knows how I might be able to fix my problems please let me know. I'd also ask about getting the appropriate sdk from someone, but I honestly don't have the money for that, and at this point, I'd be incredibly happy to just be able to get what I currently have working. BTW, do I even need the sdk or one of the debugging programs to run games on the systems? Because the manual seems to say that you don't. On a side note, I don't know who added the Spice GC Icon to the thread, but thank you. It's my favorite color of GC that I do not own.
Try looking for OldEngineer somehow, he's one of the few who can potentially help you if he chooses to do so
I sent him a pm a while before he left asking if he'd be willing to help me out if a situation like this occured, but he never responded. So, when he stated he was leaving I didn't bother to ask him for alternate contact info. I've been thinking about it today, and I think I'll just have to wait till I can buy another computer and get Windows 2000 running on that one. Hopefully that will solve all the problems as it seems that XP is just having problems identifying/accessing the fat32 HD in the DDHs. That seems like the easiest way to fix the problem, but unfortunately and expensive one...
