Read the video descryption. (yes, intentional typo ... keyword:encryption)

OOOOhhhh and of course without ASSEMblergames it would not happen as the people who made it possible would not have meet up otherwise. :triumphant:

    Its still (impressed) voodoo.

Is this anything that's ever going to reach the public?

very cool, is this something that Sony had designed into the PS2 then but had left out?

Considering that I had to dismantle the harddrive and manually modify it with winhex, not yet ...

SP193 is working on an automated installer for this. The loader is our work (mine and his). It's a heavily trimmed/optimized version of Open PS2 Loader, which we refer to as "MINI-OPL".

SilverBull came up with the idea for the loading mechanism. But SONY OSD only read magic voodoo files, that's where information from "the person who want to remain anonymous" were VITAL for this achievement.

Another guy who don't want his name mentioned helped us with information on the LOGO decryption algorithm. It's nothing that hurts the PS2 system security or makes SONY look like idiots or such, but it's part of the security mechanism used by the PS2 emulator on the PS3 and due to that SONY did witch hunt all copies of that source on the Internet.

Because of that, finding the information on the PS2 LOGO was a REAL PAIN in the butt. :dejection:

And no, we don't want to touch PS3 stuff at all because that shit burns ... This concerns exclusively to run stuff on a REAL PS2 with HDD. lol

It's part of the HDD OSD specifications. A PS2 without HDD installed cannot do that.

Sorry if this a dumb question, but... is this supposed to work on every fat PS2? or just SCPH-10000?

It *IS* Open PS2 Loader, so the exact same compatibility as the former. Maybe slightly more, because I tweaked CDVDMAN a tad and removed all the SMB code from the EE_CORE which made it need less memory (made some games that stopped working when SMB mode was added work again)

Impressive, thanks for sharing! I'll be watching closely!

Now, if there were a way to run / browse certain emulators / ROM directories off the PS2 HDD . . . but as I understand it, maybe the authors need to update their code to allow it, rather than updates needing to be made to Open PS2 Loader . . .

I sense promise in this one. Getting Sony's own menu to bend to our will has not been simple.

Is this possible on non Sony HDDs? I've got a 40gb from a FFXI pack but that's no fun.

if you have a modchip with atad-patching, it is possible with non-sony drives.

i belive it would "theoreticly" even possible wihtout modchips on standart pc hdds, but that would require hacking the mbr,
i belive the atad checks are inside of the mbr and not in the bios of the ps2 itself, l_oliveira can tell better about this.

IIRC it's not in the mbr, but in the HDD's firmware.
However, as you said, l_oliveira can tell better ;)
