Thanks for sharing this, you have the Late beta that I have, there are a lot of misplacements on FMVS and wrong screens, there are many versions of Abe's Exoddus in Russia, Vector are the most popular in Russia for PS1 but there are about 5 different publishes. May I ask is it Russian dubbed (Characters speak Russia and text is Russian). My friend Kapteeni13 has made a YouTube video about Late Beta differences and he has them all from disk 1 and he is currently working on disk 2.

    www.youtube.com/v=rjlo-qEvfBI

If any of you want the early beta which I only have disk 1 for let me know. Its so early there are a lot of differences !.

By the way feel free to subscribe to me on YouTube: Legendary Oddworld

I also have the early beta too.

As for the other Russian publishers, they are:
    -Paradox (NTSC-U)
-Kudos (NTSC-U,one of the best translations, also they have nice voices on Abe!)
-Vector (NTSC-U,I made a mistake and said that SRU is Vector, actually they are 2 different companies, anyways Vector's dubbing quality is very good, like Kudos)
-Farus (PC version, this one has some silly voices put on)
-RGR Studio (basically Kudos version with English menu text)
    -SRU (PAL,mentioned above)
And that's all.I found all of those on psxplanet.ru,including the late PAL beta.
NTSC versions nowadays can be played correctly using 7002-9002 PS1s,because they switch to PAL60 on US/Russian games, unlike the 100x-5xxx which switch to true NTSC on US/Russian games.
As for the early beta,I'd say there's under 50% chance of finding CD2.What a shame!

A little note, Paradox/Kudos/Rusperevod/Bandicoot are all one and the same. I think that one of those was the first name they used (Paradox). Later they started using the Kudos brand with website addresses bandicoot/rusperevod printed on the back.

Then why both releases use different voices?

There is was ~three groups of people behind the scene of pirate psx games translations
    - main organisators or/and commercial customers
    - text translators/hackers
    - voice translators

sometimes this all together in one team, sometimes not, especially voice actors may be pretty much random in every second game, but all of them in one pirate logo. Just because it's cheap to buy voiceovers in different places, most popular was Ukrainian voice translators.

you can try to read more about it here:

Pavel certainly has a point but I'm also inclined to think that lesser known pirates pirated popular pirates' brands. :D
A well known example of this is Fargus, an actual registered company that pirated in the open. They quickly became popular for their relatively good localisations and for always selling their bootlegs in a specific "2in1 RUS+ENG version" style. Once their brand Fargus was recognisable and sought after other pirates started printing that logo on their shitty bootlegs. Fargus sued them over copyright infringement in court where the court found Fargus itself guilty of copyright infringement. Can you believe how ridiculous this actually is? In soviet russia pirates sue you! Mind you they were operating on a federal level and their discs were everywhere. Anyhow they were simply forced to close doors and no one ever went to jail and they all lived happily ever after. The End.

I've done research of all existed silent hill 1 bootlegs from the internal russian market and posted it on another forum. I think it's right place for this info, because some of them are real betas. (many thanks to DruchaPucha and BrYaN55 for help, scans and files). http://www.silenthillcommunity.com/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=437590

What errors? Where? I know that "Paradox" could be the copy of "SacsonStudio" with different covers, but it doesn't matter if we are talking about beta status of the game version and not about who truly made different translation versions (or who has copied bootleg russian version and changed the logo).

Sorry, my mistake. I thought that NeC5552's list was a general pirate brand list and that he wasn't talking about Silent Hill specifically.
I realise that he was listing actual Silent Hill releases now though :D

You know, Russians always fascinated me on how sophisticated and well made some of the translations are made. What tools do they use? A friend mentioned they use their own proprietary tools and such to do the translating, and not publicly available tools found online. It appears to me they can crack just about any protection as well, because a site named NEWGAME.RU has a few games listed (namely Sly 3 - Honor Among Thieves, Simpsons Road Rage, and Monsters, Inc.) which I can't find an ISO for, but i'm sure they exist somewhere on the Russian market. In regards to game betas being used for translations; Yeah, it used to happen all the time apparently. In a video of a game named "Spider-Man" for the PS1, somebody had brought up how in Mexico, a pre-release of the game was being sold as the full game, and it was corrupting peoples' memory cards.

If you head over to www.rgdb.info the people there might give you some more insight. They're building a russian bootleg database, complete with scans and screenshots and videos. It's pretty big now (although nowhere near complete) and they have a lot of info to share.
