I hope someone with more knowledge than I can help! I have a PlayStation I was going to send off to have a Switch Board kit installed for a PSIO. When I opened it up to remove the motherboard I notices a lot of "rust" on certain parts of it. The machine appears to work correctly - so the question I have is how bad is this rust and should I get another motherboard before having the work done? Is it destroying any traces? Thanks in advance! Sarge
Looks like the copper is exposed due to the mask coming off. Take some IPA and q tips and clean off a small section. If it gets shiny like a brand new penny, then you can buy some solder mask and reapply it.
I'm not so sure that board is salvageable. Looks like it has eaten through more than the first layer of the board. And on the top, if thats the serial connector then I can almost promise you that it wont work, especially not for psio.
Thanks for the advice... I think discretion is the better part of valor in this case and I'm going to replace the board
These are not multi layer boards but the damage has spread far into the video encoder area. For that reason, and the 'rarity' of consoles, I'd scrap it / put it in the spares bin.
