Anyone played this game? It's about Yakuza in japan, and the gameplay looks similar, albiet a little more violent, than Shenmue. I am thinking about picking it up and possibly trying to use an FAQ to play through it, since I don't speak japanese.

Also I just read that Takeshi Miike (Ichi The Killer, Audition, cameo in Hostel) is directing a short film about the game. Was hoping for some translation work on the DVD, since I think that there might be a preorder bonus... Any help would be cool

Those box of emblems of the gangs from the game are only gained by entering into a draw.
You can buy everything else on its own, but those boxes of crests are for the lucky few. (50 ppl)

If you buy the game and a funky t-shirt together you save some (3020 yen) money. Buying the game gives you one of the emblems (the one missing in the pic).

BTW - the game rocks. Buy it now.

For the record, this game has had the best campaign gifts for a while, lots of wooden cases, sake, zippos, lots of classy adult gear. Wish I was in Japan to grab it all...

  3. Okay, I've been hearing squeals of glee from various corners of the internet concerning this game for a while now, all of which expect the reader to apparently be familiar already with the subject matter.

    So.

What is it? And what platform is it on? And are comparisons to Shenmue accurate, or are these just words spilled like cheap wine upon the tablecloth of the Internet to make me salivate at the possibilities?

    PlayStation 2.

Sort of Shenmue-like game, with Yakuza (Japanese Maffia). It has some similarities (QTE), but it's more adult oriented (18+). I haven't seen strippers and machine guns in Shenmue, that's for sure. ;)

Yeah much more adult. More entertaining fights.

It is perhaps most similar to shenmue than anything else, so the comparison is justified in my opinion. There are reviews of it everywhere so I won't go into all that. I really like and it seems pretty well received by all and sundry. Very recommended although I cannot comment on the movie that goes with it - I will have to check it out in the future.

I love the yakuza setting and physical setting and that pretty much does it for me. The japanese is quite easy to understand as well. So a fairly low level should be ok as long as you know "man" talk!

Also pretty cool system of random fights!
