The title says it all, is it possible to get S-video out out of the 32x?
I remember somebody saying this is impossible for a few reasons but I think this can be made.

If you know it, share it =)

EDIT: just had an idea: an SCART cable to 32x out and a SCART to s-video adapter. Do you guys think this might work?

A quick google search tells me that it is but I couldn't find any details for you.

There's a lot of spare information all over the internet, even the ones claiming they did when people try to replicate they fail.

I would like to know if the cable output would give a good result. This would cost a little bit more then a few transistors/resistors but would avoid opening the 32x and a lot of headache.

    Here are the cables:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/US-seller-S...t=Video_Games_Accessories&hash=item2eb7dab3b8 (not sure if this cable carries sound, I'm not familiar with SCART).

This one for sure carries it:

    Here's the adapter:

What you need is like a JROK RGB video encoder, and then just hookup the SCART RGB cable to it to get S-Video from the RGB. As Druid said, that "adapter" is very misleading. It's a physical adapter, not an electronic/electrical/signal adapter or transcoder. It's only changing the physical connector. It is meant for a SCART cable that carrys S-Video on the same pins that some of the RGB pins use.

Depending on your TV, you might be able to use RGB which would be better anyway. Some modern HDTVs will accept 15khz RGB through the VGA input. You then just have to wire up a SCART to VGA style adapter. Though I guess I should say be careful, you wouldn't want to mess up your HDTV.

my 37" CRT can only accept composite or s-video, no component and my HDTVs are for HD content.

Old school games are meant for old school tvs \,,/ =D

So, this JROK video encoder can do only 15khz RGB from arcade boards, it'll not work with the 32x output :(

It'll Work, you need a Genesis 2 RGB Cable, you can use a Scart cable with an adapter.

If you have some soldering skills, you could try to build an RGB to S-Video converter using the CXA1645/CXA2075, the JROK uses this IC, it's one of the best options available.

I was hoping for a ready to plug solution. Something with a female scart from one side and a s-video + audio on the other.

Or a tutorial with tons of pictures.

I have some soldering skills what I don't have is the knowledge to understand electronics schematics.
I did the S-video mod on my ataris (2600, 5200, 7800) but all of them had good tutorials with good pictures of the process.
I did the composite mod on my colecovision and odyssey too. So I'm not a hopeless case >D

    ahm... WOW!

That's what I was hopping for! But.. the XMD-3 works with the 32x? There it says model 2 only.

Nah, it works. I'm using it on mine. My current setup is a Model 2 Genesis, Model 2 Sega CD, and 32X, with the video coming through the XMD-3 and audio coming out of the Sega CD Unit itself... all displayed on an old Sony Trinitron CRT. Topped off with a Sega Remote Arcade, it's quite nice.

The only downside I've had is that if the unit is cold, white flashes on the screen will cause this signal to drop out, this does not happen during the summer or after it's been on for a bit. Not sure if this affects other units, or if it's just a quirk with mine.

That's the tricky part. I obtained mine through a contact here. I'd ask around to see if anyone in Japan would be willing to keep an eye out for one at the used shops.

Yeah I saw this thread but this is not what I call a noob friendly tutorial. At least, I need more pictures to see what's happening LOL

If you keep reading the thread this mod didn't work for other 2 members. So there might be something wrong with this mod.

That is not true. Who told you that? The JROK is a RGB to NTSC video encoder. It doesn't give a shit what the source is. Unless JROK himself told you it wouldn't work with a 32X or someone else specifically tried it or explained a technical reason why it wouldn't work then I wouldn't believe them.

That is ridiculously easy to put together. The hard part is fitting it all inside and mounting an S-Video connector. Though if there is an AV cable for the Genesis that does S-Video it'd probably be better to send Y/C over to the built in jack.

The Genesis doesn't output S-Video, hence the problem. Personally I think you should put the JROK or other encoder in an enclosure that takes in a SCART RGB cable and outputs S-Video and L and R Audio. That way you can reuse it for other consoles if needed. Though I guess Genesis is the main one that outputs RGB but not SVideo.

Even if Genesis did output s-video it wouldn't help. 32X requires RGB to operate.

    I'm considering the RGB -> encoder -> s-video route.

I'm not sure about quality, using an encoder from RGB would give you a worst picture them getting Y/C from inside the 32X?
Or both would be great improvements?
