Samsung GAM-BOY 1 and 2 I know these have been posted before here at ASSEMbler or at least the first one has but I found two new pictures on the net. I noticed that the GAM-BOY 1 is based on the same style as the Japanese Master System but comes with a really shitty looking pad. The 2nd version (looking like a western Master System 2) has whats got to be the worst colour ever ! Yakumo
The second one is actually an Aladdin Boy. Samsung changed the name when they released their version of the SMS2 and the Mega Drive (Super Aladdin Boy). And the Gam*Boy pad is great. What do you think looks so shitty about it (aside from the fact that that particular one has a loose cable)? ...word is bondage...
Oiks! I just came here in a link from a thread at SMS Power talking about the same subject. Must be Korean Sega juice flowin' through the atmosphere these days. http://www.smspower.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=7881&sid=addb667cc310318d0cf517c2f262ba25 Apparently, the SMS2 actually was sold in Korea for a time as the Gam*Boy 2. I didn't know that. The one pictured is labeled as an Aladdin Boy, though. While we're speaking of odd 8-bit Sega machines. Here's a pic I found on my hard drive recently of a Chinese clone of either the SG-1000 or possibly the Mark III (only because the controllers are clearly patterned on the Mark III controllers). Unlike the Samsung systems, this one is almost certainly unlicensed. While there were a whole ton of licensed SG-1000 clones, this one and the BitCorp Dina form Korea are the only pirate clones I know of. If it's a Mark III, then it's actually the *ONLY* one I know of. ...word is bondage...
That GamBoy pad looks pretty cool. At least it's a proper d-pad X, and not that horrible uncontrolable square on the UK pads. And the Aladdin Boy colour scheme is strangely appealing.
Yeah, that's what I meant, I should have made myself more clear there. That SG-1000 or Mark III Chinese clone is bloody UGLY !! Don't you think. Still, would be cool to see on for real. Yakumo
Very cool. Never though i would see the smaller version (Master System 2 - Europe / Master System 3 - Brazil ) being released like that. They are probably hard to find, right? Since the Master System is the main talk in this topic, i'll add more to the discussion. If you guys think that Gam-boy colors are different, check this: - Tectoy Master System 3 Collection - 112 games on the internal memory More info here (in portuguese): http://asp.tectoy.com.br/videogame/master/index112jogos.asp
Yeah, I've run accross that first gam*boy pick before, never seen the second one though. Wonder how many other console variations are waiting to be discovered inside Korea. Is "Aladdin boy" just another sms clone? Or is it a famiclone/something else? The Fullwiss thing for sure is a clone of the SG 1000, unliscenced. However aren't the sg 1000 and Mark III essentially the same thing? One being the computer version of the other?
SG-1000 and SC-3000 are a generation behind the Mark III. The Mark III is the same as the Master System; the SG-1000 is actually very similar to the Colecovision or MSX 1. Same TMSxxxx video chip.
Liked huh? I would get one for myself, but i won't pay 239,90 Reais (aprox. 110 dollars) for it. The Mega Drive with 71 games on internal memory costs 329,90 Reais (aprox. 150 dollars). Tectoy is crazy...
Wow, Tech Toy are crazy with those prices. Does anyone actually buy them? I sure as hell wouldn&t at those prices. yakumo
Incredibly, yes people buy them. PrOfUnD Darkness may know more about this than me, but they export a lot of these consoles. I doubt they sell lots of those here. People can get PSOne's for only a bit more. Not to mention used PSOne's with tons of games...
There's a couple more Korean SMS-related units I've seen - Korea OACS released a licensed version of the Mark III before Samsung were on the scene, and the original Gam*Boy was first released with the Gam*Boy logo in Korean characters - the one pictured above is the second release with Roman characters (I've got one of these). There's also a black Aladdin Boy 2, which looks much nicer than the lurid blue one - these are the only SMS2-styled machines that take Mark III-sized carts. IIRC, Samsung changed the name of their SMS line from Gam*Boy to Aladdin Boy when they also started selling an unrelated "Aladdin" computer line. The MegaDrive was originally released in Korea as the "Super Gam*Boy" but this also became the "Super Aladdin Boy" at the same time.
You can bet TecToy sells a lot of these Master System / Mega Drive zillion built-in games, really. When you think about it, a console with more than 100 games built-in is a good choice for a kid, and I'm sure that's the market TecToy is targeting. PD
