Hey there. Digged out my old dead Xbox's Samsung SDG-605B DVD drive, and got some problems with it. It will read DVDs but won't read CDs anymore (it used to read both) Any fix I can do? Cleaning the laser has no effect (tried it,does the same). Anybody has any picture of the SDG-605B CD and DVD pots? Just so I can know which one is which.
Anybody got any ideas? It seems to get worse over time,it's taking longer to read DVDs as well. CDs still won't read. I can't believe I actually say it,but even my old Thompson drive seems to beat this Samsung...
With what? SDG-616s are nonexistant here, and to get a SDG-605B I'd have to get a whole Xbox. Guess I'll have to fiddle with the pots until I get it working.
might want to do a full service as in lube the rails etc and clean it of dust with compressed air if you get it working again
While that would be true, the only drive that might be a Samsung is a HP/TSSTCorp TS-H492 drive. Any other drives I have are either Sony,Pioneer and BTC (which I once heard they were made by Samsung, but I'm not sure about that) EDIT:Just checked the TS-H492. Only thing written on it are D6A and D178 on the underside.
I was suggesting you buy a laser, not that you would automatically have one on hand. The number I gave will cover most Samsung Xbox drives, not most Samsung drives in general. Also the number wouldnt be on the unit, it would be on the laser pickup.
Well then its the wrong one, I wasnt implying all Samsung drives use that pickup, I was suggesting most samsung xbox drives do and thats what you need to buy.
Could adjust potentiometer as a last-ditch effort before replacing it. Might be able to extend the life of it that way. Use a multimeter.
I would do that, but I absolutely can't figure out which is the CD potentiometer and which is the DVD one.
I saw. They may have put it aside as no one every replied about pot tweaking just replacing the laser pickup. I just found the video posted in May this year five (5) months after they asked the question and answered them now eleven (11) months after they first asked it.
