Hello, I have a US NTSC Saturn the round button model. Anyhow I have completed my Saturn game collection and 2 games have stumped me. First, Tomb Raider. The screen is oddly shifted to the right so that the graphics on the right are right up against the screen, but the left side has a black bar. Is this normal?? I can post pics. Second, Slam n' Jam. The graphics are all messed up and all of the players leave trails. The game is unplayable. What could be causing this? I can post pics of this as well. All other games are perfect. Thanks!
Both sound like graphic errors due to your console. I own both games (Japanese versions) and neither have those effects. The Tomb Raider issue could just be your TV settings but if that was the case all games would suffer from the shifted image. Try the games on another console. Also pictures would help understand the problem you are having  Yakumo
Maybe you are exagerating with the Tomb Raider problem description. Are the problem that big? There's a "known issue" with Saturn Tomb Raider. I don't have my PC Tomb Raider disc in hand now, so, if you get the readme file of the PC version, there's some lines about the Saturn and the playstation versions of the game. About the redbook audio differences of the PC version and for the saturn, they say about the screen maybe one inch from the left to the right and blame the saturn for that lol. Looks like Core Design have had hard times with the Saturn.
The Saturn version is slightly over to the left but it's no where near that big or really noticeable. Below is a screen grab taken from the video on my site of Tomb Raider. You can see that the image is only slightly over to the left from measuring it against the play bar. Yakumo
Rogue & Yokumo: It is noticeable actually and it is more space than the video shows however if blown up to a larger tv the space may look bigger. But it's not a huge deal. I was just asking if it was normal. If it is, no big deal. The only reason I noticed was because the Playstation version does not have the space. The Slam n Jam is the bigger issue. And I will post screenshots as soon as I get a chance. SegaFreak: No there is not an option on the Saturn version for screen position. Thanks guys
Rogue: I never said the Tomb Raider thing was a big problem. I asked if it was normal. The Slam n Jam problem that I mention also in the same post is the problem as it is unplayable. I am going to post pics tonight when I get off of work. Thanks for the info on the Tomb Raider though. It is about an inch shifted to the right causing the graphics on the right side to be all the way against the screen on one side. Again, it's not a big deal I just wanted to see if it was normal because it seemed weird that the Playstation version is not like this. Since it appears to be normal I am good with it.
I wasn't being harsh or anything lol. Maybe with the Core Design guys lol. It's really weird. But the worst part is how they treat the problem. Saying that it is a problem of the Saturn, just proving that the problem is with them. For those who like comparing versions between the Saturn and the plasytation, it's usually the first thing noticeable. Making some people forget to compare FPS, resolution and that polygon clipping thing in the playstation version.
Thanks Rogue. I am not really a huge Tomb Raider fan anyway. I play the Saturn mainly for the superior versions of the Capcom and SNK fighters and other 2d games. With the 4meg cart it makes these games even better. Thanks for the info on Tomb Raider though that helps out a lot.
Indeed, having the image shifted over isn't a Saturn problem. If it was then all games would suffer from it. Strange how none of Core's other games on the Saturn have this problem. I'd just put it down to the team behind the game not knowing what they were doing. I would like to see these slam'n Jam pictures though. That does sound like a pretty bad bug. Yakumo
Well...I went to get pics of the Slam n Jam problem and now it is no longer doing it. Strange... Well thanks for all the help guys. Sorry for the false alarm on the Slam n Jam and thanks for clearing up the Tomb Raider thing.
Yep. I appreciate all of the info on this. I find it both hilarious and typical that the Slam n Jam problem went away after months of it being broke, as soon as I posted about it. LOL As for the TR thing, I just wanted to know if it was normal. Seeing as it is..I am cool with it. I probably won't ever play it much anyway.
