Hey guys, I used to be an active poster on the old forums, but haven't been around since they were changed. Love the new look by the way! Anyway, I recently got a great deal on a Hitatchi Hi-Saturn, with tons of games and accessories. Included amonst these were a Magic Card v2. I searched through old threads, and from that I figure it's a mod card, but can anyone elaborate for me? Can I now play games from all regions? Does it double as a memory card and/or a 1mb/4mb ram expansion? Thanks alot guys.
It's supposed to play Cd-R's, possibly amongst other features. It's popped up a few times in the past. Yakumo has one I think (at least he did have one) - Perhaps he can enlighten you on its operation and features
I have a Magic Card Ver.2 It is used to play CDR games not other originals as far as I know. To be honest though I've never tried it. Oh and by the way it doesn't work on the Hitachi Hi-Saturn ! I have one of those too. It works on my normal Grey saturn though (Both are Japanese systems) yakumo
isn't magic card v2 allow you for easy swapping by stopping the motor? it's not the mod chip and you still need the any o original Saturn disc to bypass the security ring check???
The Magic Card 2 is basically a mod chip in cartridge form. This is how it works. Switch on the saturn with the cartridge in the slot and an original game in the machine. The Saturn will boot as normal then go to the CD player screen with a text message from the Magic card 2 super impossed over the saturns normal screen telling you to open the drive door and place in the CDR. So open the drive door (the CD has stopped spiinning by the way) take out the original and put in the CDR. Then press RESET (I think or Start on the pad) and the Saturn will reboot playing the CDR disc. All this takes about 30 seconds which is twice as long as the disc swap but it does save your CD Drive's motor form damage. saying that though I've been disc Swapping my Saturn for over 10 years and it still going strong. I can make a video or take some screen shots if anyone is really interested in how it works. Yakumo
I think the reason it won't work on Hi-Saturn is it uses modifie BIOS, not the Sega BIOS hence not working. it's probably intercepting the call routine and stop the motor and bypass the cd door switch...
