What would cause a Saturn to start buzzing once it’s been on for a while? I have one that plays fine, but after a bit it starts buzzing then it gets louder and then stops. If I tap the lid it’ll either change pitch or stop all together. I do get a little bit of noise through the tv when it’s on, but this is horrible. It also distorts the picture once it starts. I’ve had it for quite a while and if it’s dying I can live with it since I have others. Any thoughts?

When you say 'noise through the TV' are you talking about distorted audio or just static? Also, I'm guessing that the buzzing isn't related to motion in the CD drive? Either way, it sounds like you've got RF interference from a power supply going bad. The usual test for this is to substitute a power supply from a known good Saturn and see if you get the same buzzing. The internals of the Saturn are a lot like the Dreamcast, where the power supply is on a separate board from the rest of the components and is easily lifted up and out. Hope that helps you out.

If I get motivated I'll try swapping it out. The sound that the tv makes when I turn the system on sounds a little like alternator wine in a car stereo, but constant. The real buzzing problem only starts after the system has been on for awhile. It goes away when I tap the lid, but comes back in 15 minutes or so. Thanks for the reply!
