I only had problems in the past with 20pin Saturn's others i find are easy.
I had in the past sanyo jvc and other types of 32 pin and 64 pin drives.

Quick question; a friend of mine has a Model 2 SEGA Saturn, which he had modded using the SSCI8B chip some years back. Worked well, then packed it up in storage. Took it out recently and found that the disc won't spin, lens won't move - unless pushed toward the spindel prior to being turned on, then it will move outward and stop - so it won't load anything. Is it possible something was affected by the chip? Is it simply a bum motor? Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.

Power to the chip, or the bridge has broken from pad/point A+B. I have the same problem right now and I think it's the chip not getting power. You'll find if you remove the chip and plug the ribbon back into the slot the drive will work.

Ribbon issues are also possible. Check out what the two orbs are doing on the BIOS screen, if it doesn't play the boot up animation then communications are broken to the optics somehow.

Even if the animation does play that doesn't guarantee complete communication either FWIW.

    (Let's resurrect this thread, again...)

Has anyone gotten a SSB-02 to work on a v2.1 Saturn? I'm seeing the same problem yaler ran into - drive assembly isn't moving. Mine has got the required 21-pin connectors though.

Relocating the resistor to the other hole did nothing (what's the idea behind that, anyways?). darius-saturn (at least I think that's him on that board...) apparently thinks this chip doesn't work on 64pin models at all. Is that correct?

Is it possible for the console to just shut off simply because of the power wire on the chip not getting enough power? If so I might have to resolder the chip's wire, I have it daisy chained to the region switch.

It will shut off if the power wire is shorted to ground somehow.

Can't seem to find a guide covering that numbering scheme for my model - I used this one, which doesn't assign it a VA-number. I'll have to look into that further once I get home. Anyways, it's a 64-pin PAL model 2, which afaict seems to narrow it down to a single revision...

Pinout difference? Interesting. That kind of sounds like the chip needs to be (re-)configured depending on the pinout?
