I'd like to mod my Saturn, it has 21 pin cable and 32 pin chip but when I looked around I could only find 2 sources. One of them seems to have pulled it off market because Paypal doesn't like it and other one wants $40 plus shipping :suspicion: Is there a source, one that ships to America and won't require a virgin daughter as payment? Anything cheaper than buying a few $200 games off eBay.
If you email robb at console goods he will help you out, but it will still cost you $40 if not more. The chip works great and is very easy to intsall. I've had it over a year and it still work fine.
Last I checked - rob's chips are like £14-18, which is like $25~ Shipping is a couple of quid, $30 tops?
here in my country there is a guy who sells them on a website for €20. with instructions and stuff, but these will only work on type 2 saturns. i myself got one of the orginal chips that you could use in type one, wich required cutting some traces on the chip an some soldering on the chip, then it would be usable for type1
Another +1 for Robb, I've had chips from him for both a Model 1 VA0 and more modern Model 2s in the past. They worked well every time, well worth the investment! Hmmm, that reminds me I think I have one to install still lying about somewhere! :smile-new:
Ok so where is ROb's site and does he ship to USA? I checked and found Sega Style store and racket boy, both are at about $38 for one plus shipping.
He ships to Australia, so the US shouldn't be a problem! :biggrin-new: http://www.consolegoods.co.uk I tried one of the Racket Boy chips (the really thin ones) and I couldn't get it to work on a Model 2. There was a giant bubble on the PCB... returned it, got lost in transit on the way back. But they were kind enough to give a full refund after a while. I've found Robb to be quite accommodating though and his chips are solid built!
Very handy thread here. Been looking to get a mod chip for a while now and I am leaning towards Sega Style since they are also located in PA. Contacted Robb as well and he replied real quick even gave me some tips on what to look for inside my Saturn to make sure he could send me the right chip. Comes down to price really. The plugin chip looks like the easier chips to work with but Robb's looks like a sturdier chip.
