I just recently picked up a cheap model 1 sega Saturn from Japan and was wondering if I could put the PSU board from my model 2 pal Saturn in it.

    Jap model: hst-3210
    Pal model: mk-80200a 50

So I tried it out. It kinda fit. Powered on the system but when a disc was in it was just a black screen and refused to spin/load it. Not sure if it's a duff JAP saturn lens (got it from a junk pile) or if it's not powering the CD spinner enough. If i turn it on without the disc in I get the time/date set screen come up.

Put the PSU board back in my PAL and now games dont seem to work properly. Usually freeze or black screen once I get into/past title screens.

Have I messed up the PAL power board?
Is it likely my import saturn is duff?

Moved to the Repairs forum, as it's more appropriate (note: there is a Sega Saturn forum but that is more for development topics. The Sega forum is more for Sega development on systems that don't have a dedicated forum).

Note that there's no such thing as a model 1 and model 2 Saturn. There are various revisions of board - VA numbered. It's important to go by those when comparing PSUs. There are several kinds of PSU - not all are compatible.

Try the Japanese system with the original PSU and a step-down transformer, if possible.
