Saturn repair questions

Druid II, have you seen the last version of the Saturn MB where the two SH2 chips were merged into an single 128 pins large IC ?

The board isn't dusty and I had already used a brush to clean all the legs on all the chips.


I did say I will do that eventually, but i don't think that's the problem.

 

I've seen that fault before on modded machines.

The start-up jingle would play, but it never got to the final note - looping the intro over and over.

Hmm, who released the VA0 schematics? Was it just schematics, or the service manual?

Unfortunately, I don't think I have a VA13 service manual to look up the actual differences.

I always assumed them to be for the Tec Toy skeleton Saturn, which is different from the Japanese consoles. Are they just reversed engineered schematics?

Lol, that's a bit sad - but I applaud their efforts! Bet they'd be pissed off if I showed them my service manuals, lol!

Just searched through my Saturn parts box, unfortunately there are only EU/Model1 mainboards with daughterboard left, guess that's not helping you.

 

Did you ever get this saturn to boot? I have one with the exact same symptoms.

Mine is the same model as ad posted about, the pal model 2 with the smaller 12v power supply. When I turn it on I get a flicker on the black screen and nothing else, cd motor spins and laser looks for the disc. There was damage to the power supply on the front right side corner someone has repaired before me. I suspect 5v has gone to ground on the chassis and somehow damaged the bios, this is all speculation of course but I have 2 region free bios chips from ad and I might try installing one to see if that rectifies it.
