I think that, in the majority of cases, European versions have been always more rare (difficult to find) to Japanese when they're Asian productions. It's obvious, taking in account that European market is smaller than American or Japense. This situation changes when the game come from US or Europe and Japan acts as "secondary" market. For example, for me, a NTSC-J version of "Metropolis Street Racer" would be, for me, rarer than a PAL.
Yeah that is normally the case, especially when it is Saturn software which sold particularly poorly in the euro region.Sonic Jam was probably one of the better releases for Sega Europe though and I am sure it sold quite well here as did Sonic R.It's a superb compilation and I would reccomend it to anyone.
Saturn Sonic Jam > GC Sonic Mega Collection As far as I can tell JAP Sonic Jam isnt the most common game, both region versions are within reach for not too much, the pal version is quite nice, sonic world pwnz life.
Like everything saturn related, if it's european it's definitly the rarer version of the 2, be it hardware or software.
Saturn hardware is easy to find.I can get boxed euro machines for 15 to twenty quid and they are not hard to find. The games however are a real bitch unless it is Uefa football,Fifa,TR,Nba Jam,etc....I think you get the genral picture that the dross is easy to find cause the mainstream pub punters only bought this kind of piss for their saturn's.Pity they missed out on some of the gretest titles ever written and contributed to the death of the machine.
Spain suffered its own football adiction during that years, and here is full of sport games for Saturn instead of some good quality games such as "Panzer Dragoon" or "Guardian Heroes" :S .
If your talking genesis/mega drive then its definetly Jpn version. You wouldn't belive how outrageous the prices are for castlevania bloodlines and contra are (both konami game btw)which is about $100 or more, Gunstar even goes for $50 and up half the time. Alien soldier on average costs upward of $120-220 on average. Yu Hasuko(did i spell that right?) goes for about $120 or more. So you can see a drastic difference in price structure there.
Yeah simply because Mega drive sales in that region were pretty pathetic compared to the dominant platform of the time, the Super Famicom. The MD was also outsold by NEC's PC engine in Jpan.Hence production runs were very small making for very collectible games. The Megadrive following was also very loyal in Japan and Yakumo will probably know a few MD nuts over there. The Saturn was a much much more succesful console for Sega in Japan. Funny how things change isn't it??I mean in the US and UK the Mega DRive was arguably more succesful than the Super Nes in the first years of that battle and even more so here in the UK.Then the Saturn comes along and reverses the worldwide market trends. The Saturn trailed a long ,long way behind the Nintendo 64 in the US and UK,which is pity cause the machine was better than the PSX imo.I don't just mean that in a Sega fanboy sort of way(although I really love Sega),I mean it in the sense tht when pushed, the Saturn was probably more technically able than the PSX.Radiant Silvergun being a Saturn tour de force,Sega Rally also. The machine was also a better 2d machine than either the n64 or the PSX too which also gave it more of a technical edge and that sound hip was pretty sublime by the standards back then. What does everyone else here think of the Saturn compared to the PSX and N64...drifting off topic a little I know.
1. N64 is a problem machine, too many 3D blurry gfz platformers. Pigeon whole of shit IMO. 2.PSX was great at 2D, but Saturn was better in the right hands. 3.Saturn > Life.
